haha..i suck at selfys

and to compound the problem..i was surrounded by approaching birds. i quick counted 13 birds..i just wanted to snap the pic and get the heck out of there..i didnt want to put any mental images of death in the local flock.

i wrapped up and jogged out of there..quietly.

Nice job Pointy! So, which direction did you face your decoy? :)
I went scouting again this last weekend, saw some tracks . . but I'm not feeling super confident in any of the areas I've checked out. I guess we will see what happens in a couple of weeks.

i faced my jake decoy quartering to me. worked awesome.

i go back this sunday, for a 5 day..i cannot wait. been raining hard here, so i dont think any of the neighbors took a bird since i got mine. i hope to get a bird within my brother's bow range. and by the amount he has been practicing shooting, i am gonna have to get them really CLOSE.

LOL, nothing like a "motivated" shooter to help you work on your calling-them-in-close skills!
Did he come in wanting to beat on your decoy, or did it just help hold his attention long enough to get a shot?

he sprinted in! i barely had time to get back into my chair, and load an arrow. i had to force myself to look at my bow, focus on getting that arrow loaded and my bow drawn back. i didnt look out the blind until i had it all back together. as i looked out, he chest bumped the decoy..HARD! i think he immediately knew something was wrong..as he started to angle away..i let it go.

with two of us, i dont think i will get surprised like that..i almost lost it.

IF i ever get an elk to approach..maybe i should be wearing a diaper. hahah..

Back at it with my brother. We had hours of strutting and showing off. Finally got him to 25 yards and missed. I admit, a clean miss feels way better than any wounded bird.

We found a nested hen on our right. She never moved. Awesome mom skills.

And we got a bobcat that stalked us to 24 yards. Fantastic show.

Cliff, nice work bud!!! I used to hunt them religiously for many years but just don't have the same desire these days, maybe it'll come back! (grin) Turkey hunting is a hoot for sure & glad to see so many are enjoying it!

Excellent! Your bro's bird?
Paul, I hope I never get to that point! Turkey was the first thing I ever bowhunted as it was the first season open after completing hunter's ed. I'd never even seen a turkey besides on the shelf at Safeway before that opening week. Unsuccessful, but that was a great season that is burned in my memory. I'm STILL trying to tag one, maybe that is what keeps me obsessed!

Cliff nice photo!

Shawn, it's more that I'm not sharing the hunt with someone! I've taken plenty of them on my own but it's special when hunting & calling with family & friends, most have lost that fire as well. It's just that these days we all get so busy that the time for Turkey hunting seems less important each coming year. Elk hunting on the other hand burns in us 365 days a year! (grin) Good luck on your turkey hunts bud!

Thanks Paul! I hear what you are saying and I totally get that. We got the boy geared up for his first year of t-ball 2 weeks ago, and just found out yesterday that all of their games will be on Saturdays for all of turkey season LOL. But man is it fun watching him hit and run bases. My fiance' and I won't be able to get away as our turkey woods are 5-6 hrs away. Looks like elk will be the only thing burning in me this year too. ;)

i'm gonna have another go at it Sunday. solo. i'll bring a book or something. i bet action has slowed where i go..but being out there is half the fun.

shot my bow yesterday, and nothing changed..but quite honestly, i just bought a new turkey choke, and really want to have a go with it. i have only taken one bird with a shotgun. at 10 paces, it is equally as exciting.

i dont know..bow, gun, bow, gun...????

lol, I was going to suggest just bringing your shotgun and bow both. That is what I did last year on our guided hunt . . . not that I got a chance to use either one. :x
