Postby pointysticks » 04 19, 2014 •  [Post 1]

3" turkey loads. i cannot get the third shell to feed up the mag tube. the green mag plug is the green one. from a 870..i am almost positive the 870, 1100 and 11-87 all take the same plug.

what gives..i took it all apart multiple times and i cannot find anything out of place...i did TEAR the o-ring..gah..!! i want to shoot a turkey tomorrow!!

Baught my son a 870 super mag many moons ago, he never did get into the hunting thing so he sold it to a coworker of mine. Moral of the story. The person had same issue as you. Had something to do with something in tube not expanding properly. If I run into him I will ask to see what he did to correct it.

Never dealt with the plug in an 11-87, and its been a while since I dealt with one for an 870, but make sure the plug is turned correctly and slides into the spring. If I remember right, those plugs had one end that was bigger than the other, and about a half inch long. The plug was supposed to slide up into the spring until it met that wider end, and the spring rode against that end. If you put it in backwards, it would be about a half inch too long, and the spring wouldn't compress right. That may be enough to keep the shell out.

We hardly ever ever bought a new gun and the plug was always gone, so we cut a pencil to fit. You don't have to take out the spring retainer then either to take it out. ;)

WORD OF CAUTION! I have never disassembled an 11-87, but be very careful taking out that retainer so that the spring and follower and plug don't fly in your face or across the house. I took apart a gas operated Remington 878 under spring pressure once, and never found the gas piston. Cost about $80 bucks for a used one to get the gun shooting again.

cliff, i am also almost a 100% positive that a plug will fit a 870, 1100, and 1187.
