Hunting Gloves?

Postby Joncey » 01 31, 2019 •  [Post 1]

What type of gloves does everyone use. I always have trouble finding ones that are not to bulky when its cold. Have a hard time grabbing shells to load gun without taking one off. Usually end up using Jersey type gloves. Is there a good glove that covers warmer type weather to cold temps on a late season pheasant hunt without being to bulky?

Sitka Mountain when I’m hunting. Working just a black jersey glove.

If you don't want to spend the coin on the high end variety (Sitka, First Lite, etc.) just grab a pair of the military wool glove inserts and have at it! ;). They work fine and dandy for most hunting applications.

Where do you get those surplus military wool gloves? They used to be real cheap.

We use to use them as inserts in our water trapping gloves. they use to be the same price as Jersey gloves.
Our local military surplus store doesn't have any

My wife found me a pair of gloves as Target yesterday. I never suggested I needed any, but she is perceptive. They are Isotoner gloves. I guess they will do good for me. They look fine and fit well.

I prefer foldover mittens. They are warmer than gloves. If it’s warmed up in the afternoon you can leave them folded back. When they are over your fingers you can flop them back and be ready to shoot in a second. Mine are actually Simms designed for fishermen. I’ve been using foldovers for years.

For this year I tried something new and was quite pleased with it. For really cold weather I just wear a pair of liners under thick, insulated mittens. If it comes to shootin' time, just whip off the mittens and my hands are nimble but still protected from the cold with the liners. Relatively inexpensive too considering I found the mittens in great quality at a used sporting goods store.

I use insulated Mechanix gloves for winter/cold weather bird hunting.
