GPS vs OnX App

Postby Tom Grates » 03 08, 2019 •  [Post 1]

GPS Question, I have been asking on FB forums about a new GPS, everyone is basically saying to use my cell phone with the OnX app, that it works off the satellites when you have no service. Anyone have anything to add, good, bad, ugly? I have an Android based phone.

I have both. I haven't used my GPS since I got OnX on my phone. I even have the OnX chip for my GPS. The cell phone is soooo much easier to use. This is a no brainer. OnX with your cell phone is the runaway winner.

The fellow that I hunted late season is a tech user. We on x was so much better to use
I don’t know if I have a valid reason to keep myGPS. Maybe just maybe the only practical use is for trap locations :|

You load all waypoints & other tracks, routes, etc on your PC & upload onto new unit including Iphones. Nothing is lost it's just transferred!

Paul's right -

You can take all your waypoints, export from your GPS, view them in Google Earth, and load them into an app like OnX or Gaia on your phone.

Saving a copy to your computer is a good idea in case you lose or break the GPS....

I've been using my phone primarily for 3-4 years now.
