Hunting Checklist "Don't Forget Items"

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 09 06, 2019 •  [Post 1]

Sure, we all have a static checklist (or checklists) that we use to prepare, stage, and pack our gear for various hunts. Pack, sleeping gear, fuel for various stoves/heaters, tentage, boots, headlamps, kill kit, coolers, batteries for all battery powered gear, chow, grunt tube, calls, clothes, licenses, etc. What are one or two "unique" items that you would recommend a person add to their list(s) that are perhaps items that can make a big difference when way, way up and out there on Elk Mountain?

+ I'm an extra kind of guy; I always pack spare keys for my truck and ATV (if taken). Nobody likes to lose a rig key and not have a spare at camp.
+ Baby wipes; wet ones. To not bring these crucial items may very well result in a case of baboon butt on your hunt (whether base camping or back country).
+ 10 liter dromedary bag (for stowing filtered water on spike camp adventures).

How about you cats; do you have a few items that you figure may not be found on other hunting checklists?

I’ve whittled my check list do n to by some people thinking may be extreme :
Wet wipes and toilet paper are my must haves
Even with the now RV camp has bring move variety of canned goods

And now hunting with my daughter and boyfriend we hunt different
I use to go in and come out in the dark now we make it to camp mid day
Food survival and medical are all smaller
I do like fruit or veggie juices in the pack
My kill kit in my pack is smaller too
Tag knife camera painter plastic plastic bags

Ian no longer the extra guy type but more of a minimalist

My backpacking gear has gotten less and my heat hike and day hunting pack

I think of the years I hauled around all the junk I never used

After waiting out a surprise thunder storm Friday
I’m switching out my painter plastic for a throwaway rain coat ( for my daughter)

I used to overpack. I am slowly trimming things. One thing I added this year after a wilderness first aid course is a dish towel. So many uses for a dish towel (splint, bandage, stabilize any bone or joint, etc). Need to keep meat clean? Can help with that too. get your fork dirty? wash it and use the dishtowel to dry.....well that isn't real important I guess.

Wind powder or something similar. Apparently there are people that don't bring that. One of my most used accessories.

It really depends on the hunt I'm going on, but the one thing I always do when I'm driving away down my street at some disgusting hour of the morning is the mental checklist:

Rifle : check
Ammo: check
Boots: check (yes I've forgotten my boots before)

I can figure the rest out if I have those items.
I hunt therefore I am. I fish therefore I lie.

Ohh good call, I'll add that one to my list.
