Vortex monocular

Postby Jhg » 06 06, 2023 •  [Post 1]

I have nice 8x42? Binos but I really hate carrying them even though for what they are they are pretty compact. Light gather and sharpness are excellent. But, as I said I leave them behind A LOT.

Sooo, here I am looking at monoculars. I understand what will be given up over binos, but, is a device actually better than another if you will not use it?

What do you think? My use is for the odd moment to survey timber or whatever as I hunt. I have never been a sit and glass hunter and will not be using a mono for dedicated glassing. If I think I might actually glass I can always take my binoculars along.

I prefer the 8x over 10x, (the 10x is similar but does not have the range estimate feature, or the eye cup). Light gathering is about 50% greater with the 8x. The range finding feature is pretty nice as well.

I think it would be perfect if you just want to see what something is or how large it is. I would not want one to scan and search the countryside. For a tree stand hunter wanting to see what moved out there it would be great. I like the idea, I can look at something then put the glass back in my pocket.
