It's getting smaller as I get older

Postby Freebird134 » 02 27, 2013 •  [Post 1]

When I was 10, it was big, heavy and at least 12 inches.

By college it was still a stout 10".

Now, in my old age of 31, it's down to 4" tops, usually folded in half and virtually unnoticed in my pocket.

Has anyone else noticed knives shrink with age? No longer does my knife have a serrated blade like Rambo, compass, fishing kit and matches, steel wire to cut....well, that never cut anything....and a giant 8" blade. I've become a Havalon man, and the only bad side is my old knives get no use.

Haha. I'm cleaning out a dresser full of hunting gear and looking at all these great, but unused big knives. Kinda sad!

I have never been the Rambo type. My hunting knives were always standard 4 inch blades, but over the years mine have gotten shorter too. Just for kicks I took apart my elk a few years ago with my little pocket knife with a 2 1/2 inch blade. The only problem I had was a need to resharpen it before I finished. I was also a little slower skinning with a short pointed blade. Since that little experiment, I have gone back to my skinning knife for doing its part, and a regular Buck knife for gutting, etc.

hahhahah!!!

i do want a bigger knife. i watched a rancher kid leverage one thru the pelvic bone. kinda cool.

and actual butchering, i think a longer blade helps with making clean cuts. just my opinion.

In Jr. high and HS I carried 2 knives a 3" folding Busk and a 1 1/2 inch 2-blade pocket knife. I cleaned a lot of squrrils and a few deer with tha knife,.
On the hunt my knife is longer 3 1/2 " and 2 skinners about 5 inches each, elk arent white-tails
