Mand,
I have been playing around with these for a couple of years now. Mine are a little bit different, but much easier to make. I can make one in under 5 minutes. 1.5 oz. of alchohol will boil 16 oz. of water.

I will post some pics when I get a chance, right now the wife is giving me the stink eye for being on the elk forum on a saturday night :D

Thats cool.
After looking at your link, i then googled how to build one.
Im thinking that is my next home-made gear item!
Not sure what I will do with it, but I may think of something :)

Those things work too! I've used one several times & no issues at all. WW here on the Forum made one for me & I really like it & it's very lightweight.

Now I gotta make one!

Bill.
How did you make your burner? It looks a bit different that what I have been seeing.
I have just the bigger pot with the over-latch like your to store it all too.

The one I made is old school. The two halves are pop riveted together. The new style ones have rolled over tops. I tried that once and crushed the beer bottle. LOL! You need at least 16 burner holes in the thing. I just guessed a hole about every 1/2 inch and came out with 17. Close enough!! The burner holes are 1/16th in. and the rivet holes are 1/8th. If you want them to be shiny it would be to your advantage to use paint stripper on the bottom of the Bud aluminum bottle before you even start. I sanded mine. What a PITA. But some guys just leave the paint on them.

If you want, I can send you 2-3 short vids on how to build one. Or give me a call @ 824-7133. My area code is the same as yours.

The guys in the video did a nice job. I tried the miter saw trick once and had parts of beer bottles flying everywhere. A Dremel tool works good! Also, some times I use a cutoff wheel in my drill press. It works great if you don't try to take too big of a bite at a time. I just raise or lower the table to match the cut mark on the bottle.

I have tried both. They both seem to have similar burn times. However, Heet in the yellow bottle is purer and can be found just about anywhere.

I use the traildesign system for my alcohol stove in summer, but for backpack hunting, I went with a cold camp...no stove.

To make one out of fancy feast cat can and hole punch:

I have a very short torso, so my pack (low volume) is smaller than others. Camp stove and pot is the first to ditch out of my pack even though they weigh next to nothing.
