Bow sight?

Postby elkoholic » 03 15, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Just wondering what sight you guys are using on your set up? Just purchased a new bow and looking to get a sight. I was using a G5 optix xr on my other bow and was considering get another for this bow, but want to get opinions from other folk first.

I've sold a handful of Spot Hoggs in the last year and I've had no complaints yet. I shoot one, I won't say its the best, but I've yet to find a reason to switch.

For my money nothing beats spot-hogg. I use the hog it hunters with 7 pins very rugged and easy to use.

Bow sight?

Postby Freebird134 » 03 16, 2013 •  [Post 7]

I was a spot hog guy, but I switched to Black Gold ascent last year. The fiber optics are better and I'm really enjoying the slider. Mine has a Surge head and vengeance base, giving me lots of adjustment.

Black Gold Flashpoint here. Can't beat their service and warranty. I took a bad spill and tweaked mine a little bit. I sent it in for repair and they sent me a brand new one.

I'm also shooting a Montana black gold ascent with 5-pin surge head. I've shot the spot hoggs and personally prefer the MBG sights that I've owned. The pins are brighter, more left adjustment if needed, and they weigh less for similar models. I also prefer the pin adjustments on the MBG. Both companies have great service.

Bow sight?

Really? You guys use the ascent? How does that work in a hunting situation? I have been using the flashpoint hd 7 pin.

Axcel Armortech HD 7pin, I love the super defined adjustments in this sight. Also it is rock solid and very bright. When I shoot 3d I cover the fiber housing with tape. When hunting I want them super bright.

mtelkkiller, my mbg ascent is the 3 pin model with the wheel (dial of death) I can turn to increase shooting distance with bottom pin. These are tough rugged sights. My 3 pins are 20--30--40yards. I can hold a hair high with 40yd pin & easily shoot 50yds without any wheel adjustment if needed. I shot a bull last year doing that exact thing.

Custom Montana Black Gold Ascent on 4" dovetail with read facing sight tape.

MBG custom sight is cheaper to buy from someone like sandsarchery.com than going direct to MBG. Can customize sight housing to Surge or Vengeance. Steve will answer the emails if you have questions. He helped me a bit with my choices.

I also shoot the Axcel Armortech HD 7 pin and love it! Great micro adjustment and also the fiber optics are wrapped with steel protection on the backside. Seems to be a bulletproof sight the last couple years.

I also use the Axcel Armortech HD 7 pin. Just switched to it last year and loved it! Buddy stepped on it while we were quartering the game up......scared the crap out of me but when I took it home and shot it it was still dead on with no problems. Ill consider that luck not durability.

Mbg ascent for me. Had the three pin then added 2 more. Love the fact i have a fixed pin and slider in one. Also the clearest pins of any sight i have ever had.

Spot Hogg are great sights BUT I switched to Axcel Armortech HD 5pin. I got tired of fixing broken fibers...fibers are fully inclosed on the Axcel and very bright. I thought a spot hogg was tough but the Axcel has it beat...IMO.

I have different sights on different bows for different setups:

AXT Carbon Carnivore C4 for my whitetail bow

SpotHogg Hogg-It Hunter 7 pins w/wrap for my western bow

Black Gold 7 pin FlashPoint RedZone for my backup western bow

We have customers that have been happy with the Trophy Taker HeartBreaker Pro and the AXT Carnivore sights.
