What draw weight are you bow hunters pulling for elk? What arrow weight are you shooting?

I'm pullin 70 lbs, shooting a 425 gr arrow. That has worked really well for me but I am always open minded about finding something better.

Ditto this very same pound and weight. Need 6 grains of weight for each pound of pull in Washington.

65# compound- 430grn - 465grn arrow wt. I have nothing set in stone so my wts. vary a bit from year to year. If trad gear then 56# 500grn arrow wt. I have no photos of just the bows.

I'm pulling 72#, that's maxed out for my limbs from a Bowtech Assassin. I'm not sure of my arrow weight, but I'm going to add weighted inserts soon and shoot the heaviest arrow that my bow will shoot accurately. Shooting a 3D league all winter, I don't notice the 72# at all, or maybe it's because I'm still relatively young. I'd LOVE to bump it up to 80#, kind of kicking myself for not buying a heavier bow. With 80% letoff, why NOT shoot 80#?

Because you can't draw it as smoothly or hold it as long as 70#

I'm in the process of changing bows so I don't have an exact spec for you guys, but it will be about 70# and 460g arrow

Thanks for the responses.

I was wondering because, about a month or so ago I damaged my left shoulder wrestling with my son. I had to turn my bow down to it`s lowest setting of about 58lbs, and I can only shoot a a dozen or so arrows at a time. I always shot 70lbs or more, which I know isn`t required to kill, but it still makes me nervous. If I`m still able to use my 340`s i`ll be up over 420 on arrow weight so I`ll be good there. If not, it will 400`s and I don`t know what weight they will be.

I`m hoping it gets better by the summer but it seems every time it starts feeling better I aggravate it at work :x

scrubs
Im shooting 58# now on my new bow. I have never pulled under 65#, but since my hand injury in November, Im waiting until this summer sometime to turn it up.

There is nothing wrong with shooting a lower poundage to alleviate any more potential injury.

I guarantee you that 58# will defiantly do the job as long as you put the arrow in the right spot

Pull 70# on the recurve, woodies are 695 grain and FMJ's are 710. I think I will be hunting with woodies this year. My long bow is 74# and shoot the same FMJ's. I have commited to hunting only with my recurve this year.

For hunting, my compounds are set at 62#. With todays with energy bows,we dont need a lot of draw weight.
My recurves are 57#, with arrows from 435 grains to 476 grain FMJ's. The new Nightfall bemans are in the 430 grain range, and the Black Eagle Deep Impact shafts are a lil lighter...

50# I was working my way up to 55# until I injured my right shoulder in January.

24DL, 364 grain arrow, 13.5% FOC, 37KE. I will eventually open a new thread on how to build a low DW elk hunting arrow. I am short arm challenged which makes my fps and KE low. I could use a higher KE and FOC for elk hunting. Because of my low KE, I would never take an elk shot over 25 yards.
