Toxic Broadhead

Postby WindedBowhunter » 03 29, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Has anyone been able to test the Flying Arrow Archery Toxic Broadhead?

If so, could you share your results?

We are thinking of carrying them in our store. But, would like some feedback from other hunters first.

We would most definately extend a deal on these broadheads to the ElkNut Forum folks!

Hmm, this is the first I have heard of them. Is there a discount code we use in your website?

I don't think they will be legal where I mainly hunt.

If I remember correctly in CO the blade has to be a 90* uninterrupted plane.

I have heard the inventor of these heads claim they are CO legal. Don't ask me how. Something about the blades being on the same plane when laid on a flat surface.

I would not risk using in Colorado because as the regulation states the cutting edge has to be in one plain. Like all things thats an interprtation how the Game Warden sees it. Most likely a hunt ending event.

Forget the regulations---can someone explain why you'd want to shoot this thing?

What is your main concern? Penetration? Durability?

im with freebird on this one, you couldnt pay me to shoot them at an elk. even with my setup i wouldnt chance it. looks like it takes a lot of momentum and ke to drive that through, and i have 97+ ke and .7076 momentum. i would have to run them through some tests before even concidering bring them into the elk woods. i would rather shoot an expandable then these at first glance. but id bet they would make ONE big hole for sure. jmho

Every dog deserves it's day in court. What is the total cutting diameter? Do they truly fly like field points? Is it sharp out of the package? How do you sharpen it?.. Remember when wheels evolved to cams... we all were skeptics.. Let's see how this plays out.. It may be a pretty good product.. I am an old dog but willing to learn new tricks. ;)

I found these by digging around a bit.. Not sure what it means but worthy of further consideration. RJ

I was thinking deer myself. I don't see this being an elk broadhead unless a guy's bow makes 100+ ft. lbs. of KE.

Well I for one would try this before a Rage :). Blades look to be replaceable? Or do my eyes just suck. I know I could figure it out by researching but I don't see myself changing broadheads so I'm gonna be lazy on this one.

dotman - your eyes are fine...the blades are replaceable blades.

Phantom16 - as you stated with other technologies, remember the implementation of carbon arrows? I was the first and only shop within a 60+ mile radius in the late 80s that carried carbons, now your lucky find a dealer that stocks aluminums.

There was a mention of the inventor earlier, Chris Rager previously owned Rocket Broadheads, which he sold to Trophy Ridge.

I have reached out to Chris on his findings of the Toxic broadheads legal use in the western states.

If anyone has any tests that they could share, I am pretty sure the class would appreciate the findings. I know that I would.

For me, the jury is still out on these heads.

I will be giving these heads a try at the end of April, early May on deer as long as they tune as good or better than my Montecs or Solid Broadheads.

I will post my results of tuning, testing and hunting here as I progress through the stages.

Unless it really does somehow produce massive bloodtrails (but so does a 3 blade in the right spot) I see no advantage. I'm not sure that >4" of cutting area is a good thing, when half of it is redundant. What's the point of the circle shape? If you have a vain or artery, which is essentially a line, and you cut it with a single slice you produce two ends that bleed. If you have a vain or artery and you cut it with a circle shaped blade (eg, cookie cutter) you still only produce two ends that bleed--the segment in the middle doesn't matter. Extra cutting surface is fantastic if it leads to faster blood loss, but I just see a penetration robber that has no real advantage.

We should be getting in our first shipment at the end of next week. We will post up some pics of the heads.

Additionally, we will post some pics of what these heads do to a Block and Rhineart targets from both a 60 and 80lb bow! (Just for you cnelk)
