Socks

What brand of socks do you guys wear? I'm looking to find something to wear with an uninsulated boot in mid-September. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks.

most of my hunting and hiking socks are from Smartwool. i like merino wool on my feet. not gonna say my feet smell like roses and fresh baked bread..they get kind funky..but not deadly stinky like with regular socks.

i got a few pairs of danner merino wools socks and they seem really nice. they dont form those pill balls like most socks.

smartwool are the only socks that don't seem to start to smell and keep your feet from blistering and getting to bad of hot spots

I use darn tough socks and really like them.

Had a few pairs of danner socks and weren't very happy with them. Seemed like my feet were always clammy.

Love Smartwool socks in merino wool. But, make sure to find the ones that have the highest % of merino and use socks that are the right weight for the season you hunt. Makes a huge difference to have the right combo.

Alpaca socks. They are spendy but worth every dime.

Go with the smartwool. You can order them in various weights from REI.

Nothing special here. One cotton & one lightweight wool for Sept elk hunts. I always wear two pairs whether it's 90 deg or 10 deg. I've found over the years this eliminates blisters as the socks will rub against each other instead of against my feet or heel. Works wonders!

I have nothing special. I wear whatever comes out of my chest of drawers or hidey hole. I like good socks, but just never get around to buying any. I worked in the forest with a fellow years ago who never, (NEVER) wore any socks. We marked and cruised timber for months hiking mile after mile each day. He had zero, nada for socks. His feet must have been as tough as the caulk boots he put on them.

Smartwool outers and poly sock liners...that thin poly layer has eliminated the blisters I used to get regularly!

Silk liners and merino or at a minimum wool blend for me. Brand immaterial. Works for me.. One thing is that I ensure they are at leas mid calve height.

Oh yes, liners are a must to prevent blisters.

In my experience, synthetic liners void the stink fight I get from wool. Good boots with moleskin at first sign of trouble.

Synthetic liners and wool blend socks both stink up quickly, at least for me. Switched to Smartwool liner and hiking socks. No stink, no blisters, feet are comfortable in Lowa Tibets even in warm weather.

Cabela's "Ingenious" socks are great. They knit the liner and shell together as one. They are pretty hard to get them stinky. Over a week, easy. I wear them all the time for work and they last forever. I refer them to my wife as the "world's greatest socks".
