How many animals with the same arrow?

Postby Freebird134 » 10 03, 2012 •  [Post 1]

Have you ever killed multiple animals with the same arrow/broadhead? For one reason or another, I had not previously done this. Either the BH gets messed up or the arrow is messed up. But I killed a mule deer a few weeks ago and the arrow was just fine. Then I killed a whitetail last weekend with the same exact arrow and BH, and it's still perfect! Not even a vane is coming off yet (I wish I could fletch more that well!). Now I want to get a third animal with it :)

FYI: It's a 100g G5 Montec CS on a Carbon Express Aramid arrow with blazer vanes and one stringer wraps.

Anyone else get their fair share of animals with the same arrow?

I too have a problem recovering my arrows intact. I think two kills with any one arrow is the best I have done. I may have done a little better, but if I did the arrow was not kept track of, and the broadhead was likely changed.

i am a bit of a dork.

for some reason, if i take an animal with an arrow, i sketch a drawing on the fletching. like a pig snout (00) or antlers.

i had one arrow with two pig snouts and turkey foot print on it..so THREE! i then sent that same arrow after a grouse in a tree..solid miss. well, i am sure i hit the mountain side about 800 yards away, down the valley. gone forever.

broadhead was a slicktrick 100 magnum. i bet i switched blades tho. arrow was a GT hunter XT 5575..tough tough shafts. i rarely broke them. lose them? yup, all the time.

I still shoot aluminum so my arrows tend to get pretty ripped up when hitting an animal.

When you own three dozen of them, they still kill animals, and are trying to buy a house, its hard to justify a switch.

However, the wife wants a new, stronger bow, so that means I got approved for a new one as well!

Reading these post reminds me of my evolution in bow hunting. I started with Port Orford cedar shafts. Then I moved on to Herters fiberglas. If I remember correctly they were called "Farbenglas". They were heavy but stout. With a 200 grain broadhead they must have weighted a ton. After that I graduated to aluminum and stayed with them for years. Sometimes I wonder why I ever left them, but like most folks I now shoot carbon arrows. A guy does not want to look too dated even if the aluminum is stil a great shaft. LOL

Standing over my 3rd whitetail of the season, also 3rd deer with same arrow. Fletchings still on it and it seems ready to hunt #4!

Same arrow, same broadhead has been through two whitetails and a 6x6 bull elk.

Easton axis full metal jacket 340 and slick trick 100 gr standard.

Sharpen the blades on the KME and straighten the point with a file and its ready to go again.

I Killed a chipmonk, two whitetail bucks and a doe with the same arrow and broad head (changed out blades), then I hit a woodchuck and he snapped it in half as he was trying to get down his hole . . . . Tough bugger. I think the arrow was a carbon express. BH was a Bad to the Bone Muzzy 100 gr. :-). That broken arrow and Bh are hanging up on the rack of the first buck that I killed with it.

Pictures! Let's see some pictures of these critters! Especially those 3 white tails of this season.

Swede, that puts me and you in about the same age bracket. Only instead of the Herters Farbenglass, I had some #8 Micro-Flite fiberglass arrows. Think I may still have a couple of them laying aroung somewhere.

One animal per arrow. After I have taken an animal with an arrow I write the date and animal on the fletching, Then the arrow goes on the wall with a Photo.

How many animals with the same arrow?

Postby slim9300 » 12 14, 2012 •  [Post 19]

In 2008 I killed my MT 6x6 bull, a WT doe a few days later and my WA cow with the same arrow and BH. I did change out the blades due to my paranoia of not having the sharpest possible BH. The cow finally snapped that lucky SOB in half. I was sad, I'll be honest. :)

I do the same thing from elk, deer and bear taken with archery equip. 1 arrow with broadhead gets marked and dated on fletching and hung on garage wall. All small game arrows that are not damaged will be used for future small game or target practice. My elk arrows and broadheads are always new. Just a habit I got into 20+ years ago. Only 8 months and 8 days to add to the garage wall. :o

Beman ICS camo hunter 400 with a 100gn Hellrazor. A bear and a deer so far this year and still using the same one. A few years ago over two years I shot four deer with the same arrow and head. That head was a 100gn Razor cap. When you find one that shoots well I like to stick with them. Be sure to spin test and test shoot them again after a kill. I had an arrow seem like it was bent once but no breaks in it.

Gold Tip Pro Hunter 55/75 with a Muzzy 125gr 3 blade broad head. Same arrow and broad head shot through 6 whitetails and a hog so far and still going strong. Replace the broad head blades each time and ready to go again. It still has the original reflective wrap and Blazer vanes that I built it with. Hoping to add an elk to the list come September.
