70# draw

Postby currie » 05 07, 2017 •  [Post 1]

Trying to get some input on how many grains guys shoot with a 70# draw weight I was told 420-560 for that draw weight

I think the manufacturers claim 5 grains per pound of draw weight is the minimum. They prefer you shoot 7 gr/lb. Obviously 350 gr. would be the lower limit and 490 gr. would be quieter and better for the bow. Either arrow will kill and elk if hit right and the broadhead is sharp.

I've shot from 500 - 650 grains with different configurations. I pull 32" on a Bowtech CPXL, so can get by with a heavier arrow without as much trajectory ramifications as a shorter draw length. Currently shooting about 570 grains, I think this may be a good compromise for what I'm looking for. I know my bow is MUCH quieter when shooting 500+ grains than when I was experimenting with 350-400 grain arrows when I first purchased it.

I'm pretty much stuck on 550 - 600 grains for my situation. Challenge for me has been finding the right spined arrow, Gold Tip Kinetic 200 is what I'm using now.
