Well, what's your go to weapon/set up this year for elk hunting? I'll be killing my wapiti with a Darton Maverick II, set around 60 lbs, 28 1/2" Black Eagle Rampage 350 shafts, tipped with Magnus Stinger 100 GN four blades... How about you cats?

My bow exploded 3 weeks ago. Very strange limb failure. 2016 model and had to be sent back to the manufacturer, unsure when it's getting back now. (Lesson - make sure you ALWAYS have a backup!)

Because my backup bow was getting sold at the same time - I had to get something new fast. Currently tuning a new Prime Centergy Hybrid, 76lb, 28.5" DL. Arrows are TBD - fletched up a couple combinations yesterday and am going to test today. Will range between 470 grains and 520 depending on what is shooting the best.

Once I get my "primary" bow back (Hoyt Carbon Defiant Turbo) - I need to get that tuned and set up, but at this point I think it's likely I stay with the Prime because of timing.

My plan this year is to use a Longbow, 55# @ 26.5" draw -- not sure of head selection yet? Arrow will weigh 500 - 525 grains -- Lots of good cut on contact heads out there, It will be a 3 or 4 blade for sure!

That sucks! I sold my old bow for new equipment, makes me wish I would have kept it. Hoping everything works out for you.

Elite 35
72 lbs
28" 4mm 280 deep six full metal jackets
125 grain Solid head
Shooting around 284 FPS

I guess I was wrong on the arrow length.

Nikon pro staff 3-9x40. Can't beat those scopes for the money. I have one on my 300 mag 22-250 and 338. I don't think I have as one get knocked out yet.

I know the 338 with Barnes is a bear flattener. Shot two off my baits with it so far one made it about 10' before shot number two rolled him as he was running off the first shot broke his off shoulder and he rolled around long enough I was surprised he got up. The bear this spring ran about 10-12 yards. Good thing too the bush is crazy thick

I will never be without a backup bow on out-of-state hunts. Would completely suck to plan for an Elk hunt all year, get across country, and then have a failure that stops your hunt.

So far, so good with the new Prime though. Bare shafts and fletched hitting together at 30 yards, deciding on arrows next.

Brendan, is the prime your new bow, or additional bow?

If I ever buy another compound, I think it will be a prime. Just curious how long you have had it, and your thoughts.

The story is this - I have 2016 Hoyt Carbon Defiant, and then had an XPedition Perfexion as a backup. The Defiant had to be sent back to Hoyt to be repaired, and I don't have an ETA for when I'll get it back. Then - someone offered to buy my XPedition which I wasn't as much of a fan of for a hunting bow. So basically - I was in a position where I didn't have any bow with about 7 weeks until I'm hunting, and needing to make sure everything's tuned and squared away.

So, bought the Prime last week and have been getting it set up and tuned. As of right now, it'll be my primary bow, but if I get my Hoyt back and tuned, I will shoot them side by side to see which I'm shooting better.

Initial thoughts are positive, but I can't really tell you until I have it tuned, sighted in and have shot it a little more.

About 6 seasons ago 4 or 5 days before the season I was shooting my old old bow and on a forty yard shot, curpluie!!!! (Hit right in the bulls eye on its final shot) I took it into the shop and he told me it would be 150 to repair and about a week out because it was so old they didn't carry the parts anymore :? .... I walked of to his used ones and he had a pse nova with 8-10 arrows all set up... I bought it for 125 and it has been a good little bow...

This year I am going pink with my daughters diamond infinite edge pro... she won't be using it and it is way nicer then my bow so I got it set up for me!

thank you, keep us posted, I have heard lots of good things about them, only shot a couple arrows with one, but it felt very natural.

i'm hoping to switch to a recurve in the next couple years, so i'm hoping to never buy another compound, but ya know how that goes. I also have intermittent problems with my right shoulder, so it may never come to fruit.

good luck man! sounds like you got some of that bad luck behind you, should be smooth sailing now :D

I have a Ruger '77 in .338 as well. I have it in a McMillan stock with a leupold 2 x 7 firedot on top. I shoot 225gr Barnes out of it, though I did just discover I had a couple boxes of Winchester Failsafes that I had never loaded, so I'll probably load a bunch of them up.
