Q'ing at camp?

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 08 21, 2017 •  [Post 1]

Don't forget to throw a little hibachi in for your base camp hunt this year... They're dirt cheap, run on little propane canister, and IMO, result in a much better "taste" for your hard earned elk loins/straps than merely pan frying them or skewering them on a stick over a fire (or gobbling them up raw like Tigger does). I know you all have a container of tin foil in your packing list, yes? Bring a quart baggie of some smoking chips, the stuff Lure Jensen makes for their smokers works just fine and put a small handful of that on a canoe shaped piece of tin foil on the hibachi. Once it starts smoking, throw those loins/straps on their for a bit till they start smoking and enjoy.... Of course, don't forget the Alpine Touch or you're missing the boat completely :D

I will be trying this in our deer camp this year. Cant wait for some fresh straps on the grill. Going backpacking again this year for elk, wont have the luxury of this, but one year Ill bring it all with. Love having fresh food after the hunt. Dont forget the night cap
