Wow! my new Savage is also shooting GREAT

Postby pointysticks » 01 16, 2018 •  [Post 1]

not to glam onto W's thread.

i'll start my own. i also got to shoot my new Savage MarkII FV-SR .22 LR this weekend. i was blessed with permission to get onto some private land to shoot. i had the place to myself. this alone does wonders to my groups.

unlike the big Savage..i sighted it in zero at 50 yards. i think this is a good range for a field hunting rifle. anything from 25 to 65 is the cross-hairs from my experimentation. i put a major dent into my rimfire ammo supply. it was so much fun!! NOTE - the bigger group was CCI Stingers. i couldnt get the same groups..ever. :(

i have a lot of guns..and the .22 is my favorite by a huge margin!! i hope to explore the Mojave desert next weekend (if boss-man lets me have thurs-fri off ) to chase bunnies. :D

BOOM!

the lower right group was CCI Stingers..i couldnt get those to shoot correctly..they were always high/left and groups were bigger.

That is a tight-shooting rimfire. IME, Savages that don't shoot well out of the box are the exception.

Thats a mighty wild group with the Stingers :(
When stingers first came out they were faster, about every 10th round was real wild. A lot of squirrels rabbits, prairie dog, pheasant, partridge and grouse along with a handful of fox final moment was a CCI Stinger passing though its head.

Pointy I had a crazy shoot in 1980 in eastern Wyoming I don't recall the exact numbers but I shot something like 71 jackrabbits sitting in the back of my pickup in less than 10 minutes.
We have some groundsqurrils here in SE Idaho where there are some hotspots where you could shoot 100 from one location .. I think Ill give that a chance this spring

Wawhitey. i ordered a plain jane..BOYD stock. the black Varmint hunter stock. formerly called the Tacticool. it is way cheaper than the cooler looking laminate wood ones. i just want a good accurate beater.

Lefty. yea..i talked to a lot of people. the lighter weight bullet of the Stingers 32gr, just are not that accurate at that high speeds. my gun just likes 40 gr better.

i have a box of CCI Velociter that are the same speed as the Stingers, but the bullets is 40GR. i'm looking forward to trying those.

the Stingers even sound different. i could sight my gun in and live with the Stingers..i would need to move high and left. but nah..they are really expensive around here.
