Brightest Head Lamp

Postby six » 01 17, 2018 •  [Post 1]

I've been training my lab to track wounded deer. She picked up on it right away and found 5 this year. 3 short tracks under 5 minutes. 1 fifteen minute track. One took over an hour, tracked him until he just couldn't go anymore. My lab is a little big for this type of work and we end up moving pretty fast. Its nice to actually see blood for a visual verification we are on the right trail. Most of my tracks are in the dark so I'm looking for the brightest head lamp I can find. Weight and battery life are a none issue.

Thanks for your time.

dang..if weight is a non issue.

look into those Mtn biking ones. they wear them to compliment the handlebar mounted lights. they are offensively bright. like you cannot (or should not) look at oncoming car traffic.

Always thought a tracking dog would be pretty neat! Another trick you might consider would be to carry a spray bottle of hydrogen peroxide. Just spray it on anything that you think might be blood. If it is, it will foam up no matter how old the trail may be. As far as light goes, an old Coleman gas lantern has always worked well for me.

The Noxx head lamps are very bright. I have a couple of them. They are bulky, though, and not as comfortable to wear as the Pentzl lights that I have.

I've been using a Black Diamond heads lamp for the past year or so. I don't recall model or lumens at the moment but one set of batteries seem to last me all year and has multiple setting for brightness as well as red/green lights. I've personally been pretty impressed with it.

Black Diamond 350 storm. Easy on batteries and not too bad on the pocketbook
