That’s a good question. Depending on what you’re looking for I’ve always seen some Swaro items at a decent price in the Cabela’s Bargain Cave. What is it that you want?

Dude are you sure! No doubt they are super nice! But they are also super heavy! Before you buy them you really need to go somewhere and pick up a pair. Hold them up to your eyes for 5 minutes and hang them from your neck.

With a good tripod or window mount, 12X50s would be excellent for viewing multiple clear-cuts from your truck. I think they would be great for viewing other large areas accessible from the road. I would not leave the truck very far with them.

Didn't say they were going around my neck :D I have 8x30s for that.

There’s a pair on eBay right now. Bis is around $1500 currently. 2 days to go on the auction. As long as you don’t have to carry those they are incredible binos for sure.

I bought my 10x42 SLC's probably 15 years ago in the Cabelas Bargain Cave.

The only way I’d carry those is if I exclusively tree stand hunted. Otherwise elk country is way to big for 8 power.

8x is just right where I hunt elk, I pack 10x slc's currently, and they work well, but a bit much. I'm mostly using them in the timber to "see through" brush on a stalk, so I don't get picked out by that cow I cannot see.

I think anything inside 500yds, 8x's are great, and better off hand than 10x or 12x

"Texas bino man" often has good prices, if they have what you need.

I have really vacillated between 10X and 8X power binoculars. In the timber I prefer 8X but in the open the 10X has an edge. For a tree stand, I usually don't have any, but will sometimes take them. In the timber get the brightest binos you can find. I found the upper end Vortex to be great. They are much brighter than my Leopold glasses and you may get the Vortex a little cheaper too. Elknut carries the Vortex and sometimes has some demonstrator ones on sale.

P.S. I see Roosie just posted some information. I guess you can read and compare.

10x42 is usually considered the standard that most hunters prefer for elk hunting out west. And, 7-8 power seems to be the norm for woodland or whitetail hunters. I have used both and I have a buddy that swears by his little 10x24 compacts. I once had a set of 8x30 Burris that I loved for the run and gun type hunting I do. I liked the 8x30s just as much as the 10x42s. And to be honest about it, If you are talking Swarovski and paying upwards of $2000 for them, you may not have the funds for two set of them. I know I sure don't!!!! Personally, I'd buy for what I thought I may use them the most for. Three months of whitetail hunting vs 7-10 days of elk hunting out west would be something to consider.
