All this Savage talk.........

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 01 30, 2018 •  [Post 1]

Prompted me to order one :D. I've bought/owned more rifles in the past year than I have in 30, lol. Just ordered one of these for the Mrs. I think it'll be a good range plinker for her to launch some lead down range and work on her shooting form, steady hold factors, trigger squeeze, etc. before I turn her loose on her .243.

Savage 93R17 GVXP.... we'll see how the scope that comes with it does. For a bit less than 300 bones for the package deal, I bit on the rifle/scope combo.

Yes sir, you can count on it. I'm gonna make sure it's roughly bore sighed and Mrs. Wapiti will do all the sighting in on her own. I think its gonna be a nice little plinker.

Yotes are going nuts outside right now. Would probably be good medicine for them. Doubt i could call them in though. Theyre making a ruckus on the neighboring property, where i heard a mess of magpies, ravens and eagles today. Im sure its another cougar kill. Would ve pretty hard to call a yote off of a deer carcass

Nice gun!! You can plink right down to a V max 58 gn bullet. No recoil for the Mrs. :D

I was looking at the same .243 on Friday ( no scope) Im not sure about a set trigger or not.
I also put a Nikon scope on my Ruger .22, No bore sight needed: at 20 yards the first shot was 1 1/2 " low. slick and easy to sight.

i held that exact rifle. it had a greyish laminate wood stock..SS barrel.

it was such a good deal!! i would have bought the .22LR..but i was in TEXAS at CABELAS and my wife was watching..closely. maybe too closely.

the one i had came with a Weaver scope. last week, my friend had the 17 older version. it was a good shooter..even without the accutrigger.

It has me thinking too. I am interested in buying a 243 bolt action. I have a Leupold VX2 4-12x40 that is still in the box (bought it for another rifle but changed my mind). I have been leaning toward a Remington model 7 or a Browning X-Bolt. I swore off Savage years ago but am now tempted to give them another try. I really can’t make up my mind. I don’t want to be burned twice.

Thanks Whitey. I’m all the way in Pennsylvania, unfortunately. I might end up buying a Remington Model 7 in 260 for now. I’ll put the Savage 243 on my wishlist. I’ll have to give Savage another shot.

Little brother of Savage is this Stevens 200. This one is in 270 win, wears VX3 glass, and has a Timney trigger. It weighs 6.5# and is 1-for-1 on elk.

Nice! I have a savage model 93 in 17hmr as well, it's my sage rat gun, and it tells you exactly where the crosshairs are when you pull the trigger, crazy accurate, probably 1/2" at 100yds, reliably

I wonder how many young wiper-snappers even remember the Stevens and Fox brands in the Savage line.

We are really hurting for snow. The ground is bare in many spots. Haven't seen an elk on my place all winter. They usually show up in late December. But not this year!

I just ordered a 6.5 Creedmoor and this thread almost caused me to order it in a Savage rifle. I could have saved about $200 but I ended up ordering an X-Bolt Stainless Stalker. My next rifle will probably be a 22 Hornet. Have any of you shot a Savage in 22 Hornet? If so, good accuracy? Is it me or do the bolt handles stick out farther on Savages?
