New toy for me too.

Postby wawhitey » 03 28, 2018 •  [Post 1]

Just arrived today. Pleasure to shoot with .38, but obviously one of the first things i did was try out some hot .357 loads. Ouch! Not pleasant! Being as how this is a cc gun for 2 legged problems, i think ill stick with .38 +p loads. Slick little gun though, i dig it. Weighs only 11.7 oz

Nice! I have a Ruger LCR in .357 and can't hit the broadside of a barn over 10 yards

The standard for accuracy with concealed carry guns is 21 feet. Theres a reason for that. Imminent threat range.

The cylinder is longer than the barrel. Don't run it through the wash when you forget to take it out of your pocket.

11.7 oz??!!

That is pretty awesome! For the purpose, you are smart sticking to 38's, it will be a more effective weapon that way for sure.

my brother's off-duty piece is like that. but his is hammerless. he carries it in a thin leather sheath and just drops it into his pocket.

he let me shoot it. it was crazy accurate for such a tiny gun. about the same size as your's - im guessing.

I have as Smith, 26 ounces. I load a 38 Special +P load in a .357 case and a 125 gr HP. Not pleasant to shoot, but very doable.
You might look at some of Speer Gold Dot + P 38 Special loads for it as there are some that are designed for short barrel revolvers. Less muzzle flash.

I was actually looking for that particular ammo, and from what i can tell they dont make it anymore, but they still make their short barrel revolver .357, which seems odd. All things considered, seems to me like youre better off shooting .38 through a snubby.

I like it! Thinking about getting rid of my Glock 27 and going back to a wheel gun.

Shooting 38 SP in a snubby cuts that energy down significantly. About 200ftlbs, about like a .380.I Would not want to be shot with one, but I'd sure want a little extra. Shooting a mid range .357load gets you about 38 SP + P

Ill be shooting .38 +p. From what ive read, the performance you get over .38+p by shooting .357, from a 1.8" barrel, is minimal, but the increased recoil is very substantial. So to me the slight gain in power isnt worth the major increase in recoil, and the longer time needed to get back on target that comes with that.

All very true.Look above and you will see I shoot a 38 SP +P load, but in a.357 cases. The38 SP +P in my wife's Lady Smith 38 SP is brutal Much more than my load so in my .357.Reducing bullet weight to 125 gr helps that a lot. I do have a little longer barrel on my .357 vs the Lady Smith. When shooting the 38SP ,+P in a snubby reduces that power factor.Shooting a mid range.357 gets you to about a 38 SP,+P load. I also load 13 gr of 2400 with a 125 gr HP to get there. What ever works to get the job done though.

Man, if i bother reloading, it will be to increase accuracy in rifles. I just dont see myself doing handloads for sidearms, that will only be used at close range. Nothing against it, if thats your thing, much respect for it. For me, iys just not worth the time invested to learn what im doing. I think factory loads will serve me fine in an up close self defense scenario.
