Suggestions for a non air sleeping pad

Postby six » 04 16, 2018 •  [Post 1]

Looking for suggestions for a non air sleeping pad. This year we will be hunting with camp on our backs. I'm not liking the idea of blowing up my air pad every night, and vice versa in the morning. I really don't want to sacrifice comfort either. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I prefer a closed cell reflective foam pad. Insulated and lightweight I own a roll up style Sol Lite. Light, durable and never leaks Seems like the really Hardcore backpackers end up with the folding style.
My buddy used a fold up z-lite style.

If the re is a next time I would get a longer and wider version

Inexpensive too

I have a few Thermarests that are 'self inflating'- just open the valve and lay it out and they take in air, maybe one breath of air into it afterwards if you want to it super solid. Deflates and rolls up in about two minutes and it's insulated. Nothing like the old school lung busters.

Even at 70 years old, I am inclined to cowboy it when I am out away from base camp. I prepare a good spot and use my clothes for a pillow. It is not as comfortable as home, but it will do.

Double thumbs up Swede.
I will definitely be checking out those self inflating pads.

Ya, the self inflating pads (when they in fact, do what they're supposed to do) are nice. I've had some that inflate as advertised and others not so much (I think sometimes, they're finicky about cold temps). I just picked up a new Klymit pad that really, only takes a handful of breaths to blow up. Not so sure I'd be too keen on packing in a solid pad due to the bulk (don't compress down for packability), and, they're just not as comfortable as a good inflatable. Just my thoughts ;)

I went on a three day pack trip last year. I quickly remembered why these old bones do not like hard ground. If I had the room I would take my twin air bed.Even my old Thermorest doesn't cut it anymore.

I will be trying out the Klymit one Wapiti1 put me onto ,this year
