What's in your elk pack part 4 - Optics, ELECT, and NAV

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 06 07, 2018 •  [Post 1]

Let’s roll with part 4 of this super awesome series of threads on “what’s in your elk pack”. What do you cats have in your elk pack for optics, electronics, and navigation? For the purpose of these threads, let’s assume we’re talking about pack in hunts.

If memory serves, I normally carry the following:

Optics – Binos, Zeiss Terra 10x32; Spotter (if taken), Vortex Razor 11X33X50.
Electronics – GPS, old school Lowrance (15ish years old and still kicking); Rangefinder, Sig Sauer Kilo 1250.
Navigation – Brunton Compass, maps for area(s) hunted.

Well, what's in your elk pack for optics, electronics, and navigation?

8X40 binoculars and a Vortex range finder for optics. My GPS is a Garmin CS. I don't use a spotter in my tree stand, so it is normally not in my pack. My Redfield spotter usually stays near or in my pickup.

Nothin' I hunt north Idaho. If you can see 10 yards your in a road! When I go elsewhere I have a 8X40 Cabelas instinct $10 yard sale with harness, and 10X50 Brunton-hand me down from dad.
GPS-super old from thrift store, trying out couple free phone based apps instead this year.
Range Finder-Leupold TBR 750-one of my bigger purchases used but still paid $100. Looking at a Sig next.

Vortex spotter
10x42 nikon binos
I love having my spotting scope and dont go anywhere without my binos. Just need the phone scope adapter to take better pictures.

Bought an Inreach and my wife has the ability to text me now......
garmin 64st with onx maps chip

Ill leave maps in the truck. 24x36 topo areas with trails I labeled on them for back up spots. ive never found a need to carry a map with me yet, im sure i Will some time. My gps main use is my alarm system. Its rare for me to go with a half battery life though a hunt.
