What's Going On?

Postby Swede » 06 27, 2020 •  [Post 1]

I have been on the forum several times this morning and there is nothing going on. Nothing! No half baked theories on elk tactics, no recommendations for some new wrist watch with an integrated elk pointer (patent pending), and no cheap shots at Swede.
So what is going on? Are you characters hibernating, off scouting, or congregating in violation of government recommendations, while plotting some miscreant and idiotic schemes?

We have more rain on the way, but I got out for an 8 mile ride on my Mule today. Mule was fine, but I am glad Sunday is coming as I need a rest. We are opening up church tomorrow, but I wonder how long this will last with the spread we are seeing with Covid 19? You WT characters stay safe.

Ha. Out re-doing the deck. Damn Mrs “W” is busting my chops, having me get all major chores done before “‘tis the season” starts.

I was up on ladder jacks replacing failed siding and testing new paint colors. Manages to finish the siding today, on to new trim and fascia.

Which color do you like more?

We're going with the blue. Sorry Lefty. Its Hardie, not wood. The siding is done now, moving on to trim and fascia. Paint in 2 weeks hopefully.

Why did Hardie need replacement ?

I meant wood scaffolding,. We had a wood plank come out from under us once, my brother and I dropped 6 feet onto a concrete dive,.. . I was maybe 18 at the time. My mom went and bought three 16 foot planks

Ahhh yes, it is wood planking. A 16' 2x10. We made sure we had at least a couple feet of hangover on each side. My Dad is a past carpenter by trade and is quite comfortable on them. Myself... not as much. I put my big boy panties on though and got it done.

The Hardie was pin nailed 23ish years ago in virtually every butt joint. Over time, about 2/3 of those corners have cracked and broken and fallen out. In many places on the house you could see the WRB through the holes created by the corners cracking out. In hindsight, I'd probably have been better off with a complete tear off and redo, including Tyvek or some other house wrap, but I think I did ok by cutting out bad stuff, flashing and replacing with new stuff. With caulked joints and a fresh coat of paint I think it will last much longer than we'll be in this house.

I put my fancy new Wapiti-Talk sticker on my Mule (Kawasaki) this weekend. :)

I hope you were socially distancing and wearing a mask when you did that important work.
