February 2024 WapitiTalk Photo of the Month Contest

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 02 02, 2024 •  [Post 1]

This month’s theme is “There's a storm rolling in”. Let's see some weather pics you've captured ;)

1. One photo submission allowed per month, per member (yep, stinky MODs may enter a photo also).
2. Photo must relate to the monthly theme (or risk being disqualified).
3. Do not use photo editing software to enhance your photo. Just post the photo as it was taken with your camera, smart phone, trail cam, etc. You may have to resize some photos so they are accepted by the forum software; remember, photos can only be 800X600 pixels "MAX" for our forum.
4. You may use older photos you have on hand, but, do not submit a photo that has won a previous WT photo contest.
5. Any WT member may enter a photo they have taken or appear in.
6. Judging – WT members will vote on monthly photo submissions.
7. Contest period will normally end the last day of the month.
8. Winner must contact WapitiTalk1 via PM and provide mailing address for prize (your prize may be sent directly from a WT sponsor or from RJ).
9. Prizes will vary from month to month.
10. All monthly winners will be automatically entered into the "photo of the year" contest.

The prize for the February 2024 contest is to be determined.

Ohh this one will be fun. I can think of a few good ones I've got tucked away.

What's your point? It is either raining or getting ready to rain where you live. :D

Guiding fly fishing trips on the Upper Columbia River. This picture was taken right at the Canadian border where the Pend Oreille river joins. It was evening, we had had an exceptional day of fishing when all of a sudden the wind changed. We ran up around the corner to the border for one more drift and this is the view we were greeted with. This storm was heading our direction FAST. We started by drifting and fishing, keeping an eye on the cloud deck moving our way and listening to the thunder. It became abundantly clear that drifting down the river wasn't going to outrun this one and by the cadence of the thunder it was also clear we did not want to be on the river in it. We turned and burned, heading down river as fast as my 60 HP Evinrude would push me. My passengers tried valiantly to get a picture of me running the boat with a bolt of lightening behind me, they probably had 25 opportunities to do it. It overtook us with about 1 mile of river left to run. In that 3 minutes we were soaked by torrential rain, but managed to get inside before the hail arrived. All our gear was left in the boat to fend for itself. We sat in the A-Frame cabin drinking good whiskey watching the storm roll down the valley. All in all, a fantastic night.

All i have handy. Dec 23 2023, prince william sound. Not a breath of wind, water flat like a pond. The snow was hitting the saltwater and not even melting. Of course later that night it started howling and everything went to ****.
