Got berries?

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 10 28, 2013 •  [Post 1]

Do you Colorado cats have huckleberries in your great state? I know I enjoy snacking on them in WA, ID, and MT.

The internet says we do, but I've never seen them here. I remember a very tasty huckleberry milkshake the last time I was in Montana!

One of the biggest perks of hunting the north idaho jungles. Had a relative from Utah that bought a 5 gallon barrel of huckleberry ice cream to take home after a bear hunt. I wondered if it was a perfect shake consistancy by the time he got home.

Apparently there are several types of huckleberries. And yes we do have them in Colorado. We also have wild raspberries, service berries, and choke cherries. We also have another one that resembles a raspberry but I can't think of the name of it. All I know for sure is that I stumbled onto a patch of them one morning and lost a whole hour of elk hunting because they were sooooooooo good.

Just thought of the name of the berry I had forgot in my post above. It is called the thimble berry , at least that's what everyone calls it around here. Dang, they are goooooooood! If you ever happen to stumble onto a patch of them, you'll be there for awhile!!
