Sad Day Indeed :-(

Postby Indian Summer » 11 18, 2013 •  [Post 1]

After a long battle with kidney failure my dog passed away Saturday night. Saturday while I was up a tree stand Toni made a call to see about having her euthanized but the Humane Society had already closed. We knew her time was near. I made the decision that night that I was going to do it myself but not so sure I could. I woke up at 3 am and kept running through my head if I could, where I'd dig the grave etc etc. I almost got up at 3:30 and started digging but it was raining. I'll admit I was relieved when I went to her crate Sunday morning & found she'd passed in her sleep. The old girl spared me the misery. Then God gave me a break in the otherwise really heavy rains that day to go out and dig. Funny how things go in life.

Rest in peace old gal. You were the greatest friend a person could ask for.

Sorry to hear that Joe. My family has always seemed to hang on to our animals too long. It's a selfish thing to do when they are in bad shape.

Joe, really sorry to hear about your buddy there! Dogs no doubt can become apart of the family & their loss isn't taken lightly. Going in her sleep helped you cope with her absence. Keep your chin up partner!

I too am saddened to hear about the loss of your old friend. Beagles have been my favorite since I was a kid. We had several back then.

Sorry to hear about your canine companion. Glad she passed away in her sleep.

My service (hearing) dog passed away 2.5 years ago. I still miss her. She was a great mountain dog. Loved the snow. I knew for a year that her time was coming. It was my first experience of putting down an animal. A year later, her little boy, my cat (yes, they were pals) had to be put down. Funny how my cat would retrieve things and my dog would not. My cat loved dogs. They both were very unique.

I decided I did not have it in me to do this again, so I have abstained from getting another service dog.

I hope, in time, you get another dog. They do add a lot to our lives. I am sure you added a lot to her life as well.

I had to go through the same thing this past summer. Ole Petey was a good friend and family member. I know how you must feel.

I feel for your loss. Dogs become a big part of us.

The third week into the elk hunt I took my 3 year old lab to the lake for one last time.
The vet had been trying everything . We thought we had gotton over the hump when he was just a bag of bones when his legs filled with fluid and he was in pain. I came home from the hunt. My wife said it was time. Walked out to the pasture, he stuck his nose in a gopher hill one last time, Gave him a short ride on the ATV.
Drove to the lake. He watched me dig the hole from the seat of the truck. Walked him to the water , he tried to swim. I had to carry him up the bank.
I was ready to take care of him,.. but my wife had set it up for her dad.
Yep it sucks

Sorry just doesn't seem to be enough. I also have a best friend that has aged way to fast and her time here has been a sun rise that won't fade. Tasha is with me every day and follows me every where.

Remember your friend for all the good times you both shared !!

My girl will be buried in Elk Country. That's where she loved to run through the hills.

My condolences to you and your family.
