do you wash your truck BEFORE hunting trips?

Postby pointysticks » 01 18, 2014 •  [Post 1]

my wife was perplexed. i am heading off to AZ to hunt Couse deer. big western hunt.

i am packing today..gathering food. i decided to change my oil early, despite the remaining 700 miles of life i have on my oil..new filter, new air filter.

the birds bombed my truck bad!! i scrubbed it clean. it is kinda silly..i am gonna turn north from the highway and blast 30 miles down a dirt road, and cross two small streams. it really made no sense. i guess it is kinda a tradition for me. washing it lets me check it over carefully..i think. dumb really. wasted the water. hehe.

i did have to scrub out the truck bed. i am sleeping in there for a few nights before the rest of the crew shows up..with the pop up camper. i've been hauling dirt and firewood. i dont want to punch a hole in my new sleeping bag..

I clean my truck before I go, and the trailer is clean too. When I get back from hunting it is an all day affair to clean them up again. My wife is very helpful with the trailer as she believes I am incompetent. I used to try to debate the incompetence thing with her, but she proved she was right more than once.

Huh? I leave mine dirty so I look like I belong there and don't get mistaken for a yuppie or weekend warrior.

Willie you cracked me up man!

Good luck Pointysticks!!!

Yuppies dont go where I hunt,.. and my pickup certainly doesn't look like a yuppie truck, too many dents and dings, 4 different rims
I do try to look more like a rancher, leather gloves on the dash a lariat , Handyman and shovels in the bed
As a trapper I generally didn't want anyone to know what I was up to. Just sort of slip in and out I like to hunt the same way,.. no fan fare
My pickup is 14 years old and has a few stories that most pickup never acquire,.. some sad, some cool, some scarey, been places most cant, wont or shouldn't go

keep the blood of the rear bumper, and mud on the plates

gotta do a couple of work meetings..then i leave on thurday..at dark thirty. hoping to run out my door into my preloaded truck..4:00 am.

this hunt is awesome. i'm leaving my tent at home. i'll sleep in the back of the truck. if i have to hike in and stay out..i'll just toss out a pad and sleep under the stars. weather predicts mid 40's at night..80's in the mid day.

they sold out of javalina tags, so i will just have my deer tag. couse or mulie..no preference. fine tuned my 80 pin..hehe..just in case i need the hail mary. my 60 yards shots yesterday at the range..it was like someone else was shooting them. softball sized groups all day long. i am stoked.

next year..some of you guys should meet up. plenty of land out there.

oh man, i dont know the last time i washed mine, and it only has 22k miles on it. the interior needs some quality time with a shop vac too, but i cant seem to make it happen, would rather be out shed hunting or something. pretty embarrassing

Its a Ford, should make it to 300,000

To help with the dog smell and the really nasty odors I keep the tuck full of sage branches,.. some snipped and placed infront of the vents. Others just break off when we slam the doors :D

two weeks back from Arizona.

finally cleaned up the interior. i didnt want to populate my yard with mystery weeds. and my dog yelped when he stepped on a sticker inside my truck. wife eyeballed me. out came the shop vac..and cleaning rags. my interior is spotless. exterior still looks like a farm truck. i dont have the time yet.
