Famous Movie Quotes, Elknut Style

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 01 22, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Geez, it must be my mind wandering at the end of this flu bug ;) If you guys/gals don't want to play, I understand.

Most of us like a good movie and can probably drum up a quote or two that perhaps, could be used be one of our esteemed members here ;)

How about this one from the great action movie "Taken" with Liam Neeson: "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don't have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for elk like you. If you allow my clients to be successful, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you."

I can see Indian Summer having this conversation with a herd of elk in an alder thicket  Anybody else have one?

Clint has made some of my all time favorite movies also. My number 1 was Pale Rider. I love that opening scene where the teen daughter is reading to her mother from The Apocalypse. "And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him." Just as she finished reading that verse from her Bible you saw Clint, through the cabin window riding past on a pale horse.
When I saw that I sat up a little straighter in my chair and paid attention. Every one watching knew things were about to happen.
I forget the name of the movie (maybe Grizzly Adams) and am unsure of the actors. I think one was Robert Redford. Anyway he and an old mountain man were stalking elk while walking beside a horse. Anyway the greenhorn became concerned that the elk would notice there was something wrong. Grizzly reassured him by saying something like "Pilgrim, elk can't count legs". RJ, with that quote you could move this thread to the Elk Forum and maybe it would be archived as "best of the best" tip.

You guy are right. you brought back some good memories. There has been just too many years and too many coffee breaks since I watched that show. I guess I will need to find it and see it again. I have a library (very small) of elk hunting books, magazines etc. Maybe I should keep it there.

"Im your huckleberry. You're no daisy; you're no daisy at all! Poor soul, you were just too high strung."

I'm not positive, but I believe this VID has something to do with one gentleman unsucessfully trying to encroach on another gentleman's Oregon tree stand location, or, it could be the scene from Tombstone where Doc Holiday puts Johny Ringo down for good :D Tombstone is full of great one liners.

lol, one of my all-time faves! I watch this at least a handful of times each year.

"I've got two guns (or bows) . . . one for each of ya.

Or from Gangs of New York, after your kid shoots their first elk and recovers the arrow, but tries to wash it off later:
"No son, never. The blood stays on the blade. One day you'll understand." LOL

I was elk hunting in NW Montana two falls ago when I heard some guy reading the riot act to some "wolf huggers" on the access trail. It appeared the anti's were trying to follow the hunter to his targeted wolf hunting area. The rant I heard would make Jack Nicholson proud. It went something like this:

"Son, we live in a world that has wolves, and those wolves have to be hunted by men with guns. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Mr. Activist? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for the wolves, and you curse the hunters. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That a wolf’s death, while tragic, probably saves elk. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves elk. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that mountain, you need me on that mountain. We use words like conservation, discipline, and ballistics. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the elk hide of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and sit on an elk trail. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!"

Feel free to use this rant if you'd like for future encounters :D

Does your wife know you think of me as often as her?

I once had an elk turn and run because I accidentally said out loud "Go ahead make my day"

I kid you not we used to sit in the guide tent and cook tent having entire conversations using quotes from Jeremiah Johnson. One time this guide from Poulsbo (Washington) had this really puzzled look on his face. I asked him what's up with you Dan? Turns out he never even heard of Jeremiah Johnson. I asked if he was an illegal alien. The next season he showed up knowing EVERY line. He bought the movie, fell in love with it, and drove his girlfriend insane by watching it like 50 times that winter.

A classic: Bear Claw: "Full time night woman? I never could find no tracks on a woman's heart. I packed me a squaw for ten year, Pilgrim. Cheyenne, she were, and the meanest bitch that ever balled for beads. I lodge-poled her at Deadwood Creek, and traded her for a Hawken gun. But don't get me wrong; I loves the womens, I surely do. But I swear, a woman's breast is the hardest rock that the Almighty ever made on this earth, and I can find no sign on it."

You can't tell me they didn't laugh when they wrote that line!!!!

Braveheart - Swede style

Swede: And if this is your hunting team, why does it go?
Veteran Hunter: We didn't come here to call for them!
Young Hunter: Home! The treestanders are too many!
Swede: Sons of Oregon! I am Swede.
Young Hunter: Swede is seven feet tall!
Swede: Yes, I've heard. Kills elk by the hundreds. And if HE were here, he'd consume the elk with bullets from his eyes, and arrows from his arse.
Swede: I *am* Swede! And I see a whole group of my chasers, here in defiance of tyranny. You've come to hunt as free men... and free men you are. What will you do without calls? Will you fight?
Veteran Hunter: Fight? Against that? No! We will not call. And we will continue to hunt in silence.
Swede: Aye, fight and you may loose your calls. Run, and you can continue to hunt... at least a while. And dying in your beds, many years from now, would you be willin' to trade ALL the days, from this day to that, for one chance, just one chance, to come back here and tell the treestanders that they may take our calls, but they'll never take... OUR GRUNT TUBES!
:D

I don't know if it is delirium, but I start quoting lines while packing meat. (More so as the hike lingers on)

Huh, I thought Metallica made that up! Guess I ain't that old. :D

Phantom I LOVE the bigger boat line from Jaws. Used it all the time when muskie fishing. Been known to quote it once or twice when a buddy was scoping out a big girl near the boat launch too. ;)

I've taught a lot of people about hunting. Hired lots of flatlanders from guide schools. Been there when people shot their first elk. My classic in those cases has always been: "You've come far pilgrim"
