For me, as a kid, pheasants were like elk ... I'd hunt and hunt, only to have things fall apart at the end of the day.

Pheasants will teach you to never give up, and that the walk back to the pickup is just as good as the walk away from it.

Finally ... I remember it very clearly ... a rooster got up out of a little wooded creek. I shot, and ... he crumbled up! I was in shock. :o Then ... behind me I heard another take off. I turned around and instinctively shot ... and he crumbled, too!

A double ... and the curse was broken. I realized that it was possible.

Congrats to your boy.

And thanks for stirring up old memories.

I grew up in southeast Nebraska shooting pheasants. I miss it. The wild bird numbers are horrible here now. It is so much fun. Congrats to your son.

I remember my first pheasant (I was just about the same age)...it was a long shot...and that bird started spiraling straight up in the air...then finally dropped like a stone!

Congrats to your Son, he will always remember that hunt. 8-)

Congrats to you and you son!!!!

I grew up shooting pheasants and quail with ctdad and his father. That is pretty much all we did. Like he said, birds are pretty much gone there now. I go twice a year here in South Dakota. Tons of birds but is pretty much a pay to play game. I also live 3.5 hours west of all the pheasants. When my boys get older I'll probably go more.

Good hunt Scott! Glad you guys made it out in spite of the weather. It's always good to see a youngster get his first bird bagged! Putting some photos together to post here.

Great times and memories for sure. Used to love jump shooting ducks and pheasants with pop along the farmers creeks in Kalispel way back when. Nicely done bnsafe!
