Elknut Meet

Postby >>>---WW----> » 02 16, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Just wondering if anyone here has given thought to an Elknut meet, picnic, reunion, or what ever you want to call it. Would be nice to meet up with fellow elknuts sometime.

I know it was done at least once by the guys over on Sagecreek forums. Any thoughts or ideas about this???????????

Neat concept for the nuts that live in close proxcimity to each other.
Don't know of any around these parts.

I remember the elk calling seminars Scott did at Sagecreek, I have thought maybe we should try another one of those.
Paul was the speaker and we had pretty good turnout for them in N Idaho.

I like the idea. A picnic would be great. I can't go to the ends of the earth for a picnic, but would like to consider it. Maybe a different place every year, so people would get a chance to meet some people at least on occasion. Maybe Brad' can bring his daughter. I read somewhere, she makes a mean coyote casserole. :D

That would be nice but I'd have to wonder how many eastern hunters would make it. Location would be a tough call. Lou could probably set something up in Laramie worth the drive. Or... maybe a meeting east & west. Retired guys can come to both. Collect annual patches like the ones at Sturgis.

I sure do use every available day I have to hunt. During the winter getting away for a day or 2 could happen. But once it warms up I'll be buried for the rest if the year. This time next year sounds good. Take some time and do it right. Sponsors could be there to talk to people. Elknutapalooza. lol

I would really like to meet some people from here. I met Brad up at Lake of the woods last summer. The biggest problem for most is the distance. Maybe we
could have region get together. Not the same as a full get together but be nice to meet more people from here.

I would be for a meet up. I also understand the distance factor.
We have had a couple meet ups here in Colorado with some locals.
Fun stuff

Somewhere in Ohio or Indiana would probably be a good central location for both easterners and those from the Midwest. The question is will those Oregon guys bring crab that far?

These ideas are getting good.

Time it with sport shows. Set up an Elknut Forum booth in the middle of Elknut sponcer booths all around it. They will get tax deductions to ease the travel cost, and sell their commodity.

Close to campgrounds with cabins and motels.
Wild game feast.
Calling seminars.

But I don't think is the center of where the majority of members come from. Not sure. We might need to take a census.

I like the idea of a hunt. But for something bigger than a turkey but with high success. I like the hog hunt idea. Antelope even better. Nicer country. Bow or gun. Can have a few drinks at night and don't necessarily have to get up before light to go hunt.

OTCWill.... get your gears turning. I know you have some good lope spots. Although... we can do hogs any time year round so that may be more feasible.

I would think a meeting in the East and one in the West would be helpful. If we meet near Elknut's home town he can put us up for the night at his house.

Could mix some modern technology in and actually go state by state to overcome the distance factor. Bear with me here. Check the interest for this idea by state and someone could step up in each area and say 'ya, you can camp here'. I'd like to meet a bunch of you elknuts in person but that's probably in the too hard to do category. Sooo, we decide on a weekend in each rendezvous/state location and meet with a handful of the local nuts. At a predetermined time, we log into the hosts computer using video teleconference software and let everyone know who's present and have some elky discussions. The rest of the time we could practice calling, discuss tactics, shoot some arrows, BBQ, whatever. Thoughts?

Drink beer, swear, and make funny elk sounds on Skype?

I don't know about all those other ideas but when you got to the part that said BBQ I was sold. Just smoked some babybacks yesterday. mmm

I think the west coast guys should come over to the Harrisburg Pa show and we mix it with that. Either that or make it a hog hunt. The Bowsite Porkapaloozas always sound like fun. Best of both worlds, hunting and serious BS to go with the BBQ.

I think this is a great idea ! Idaho is a good central meeting place for the Western folks but I sure would love to shoot some hogs ! A January Arizona hunt might be cool too...

A blind man can kill turkeys along the Nebraska/South Dakota border. It's insane there. Up north everyone hunts turkeys. We want hogs! :D

Another good one but further eat in Tennessee. I know this guy. Hands down he has the biggest giant hogs of any preserve. Always wanted to go down there. With Mitch you pay the fee... and stay and hunt until you kill the hog! How cool is that?

With the travel cost and cost of time off, I'll probably be limited to public land hunting...
