It's not quite elk hunting

Don't know where to put this one, it's not elk hunting, however, it is archery in it's most basic form, with lots of yuk yuks included.

Absolutely amazing. Heck, I have a hard enough time hitting a fixed target ;) How do you practice for that type of hunting?

We glue up cardboard about 3/4" thick, kind of like a thick pizza plate and toss them. By the time you are down to something the size of clay pigeons, you get the false impression that you are ready for the real thing. The birds have other ideas most of the time.

That looks like fun, but how many arrows do you lose before you can make it dangerous for the birds?

I help with a youth outdoors event during the summer at Halter Wildlife and had no idea they have this hunt; will have to check it out for next year. Thanks for sharing.

Everyone is required to use FLU-FLU arrows with blunts, field tips or Judo points for safety sake and it also make them easier to find. I generally leave 3-5 arrows in the cattail marsh for each outing. Usually get 10-15 good shots in the 3 hour hunt.

It might not be elk hunting but it sure is good practice for elk hunting and... it looks like some serious fun! No biting into BBs either. :-)
