Your 'A' List.

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 03 07, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Got a lot of new cats prowling around 'the' elk forum. Wanna run this one again. What is your top few list of outdoor themed movies?

the great outdoors starring john candy  , Jeremiah Johnson, the GREY was ok, I can think of any more right now. I prefer world war II movies the best.

This may not be exactly what you were looking for, (what's new?) but the elk hunting movies put out years ago by Stoney Wolf and Wilderness Sound were excellent. Stoney Wolf had one I did not care for. If I remember correctly it was called Elk Hunting with the Pros. It featured some ball players shooting some elk. Most of those old videos had one, two or three elk killed in an hour and there was some drama, a hunting tip or two, and they were fun to watch. All I have seen recently is elk kill after kill on some ranch.

A river runs through it. Some believe it ruined fly fishing but I liked the movie.

The original True Grit. It has turkey, snake and rodent hunting, and the Colorado San Juans in autumn. "This is a rat writ, writ for a rat, and this is lawful service of said writ. Says you're to stop eating Chen Lee's corn, forthwith." BANG!! "There's no parley with the rats, baby sister. You either got to kill them or let them be." Rooster Cogburn.

Intersting because yesterday I think I found a movie set town on GE. Its nw of crested butte, co and just west of the ragged wilderness area. There is a town complete with board sidewalk, stable, etc. On a dead end road. There is no rail or water I can see and almost all the vehicles are parked outside edg of town. Plus I dated back the aerial photography and the "town" wasn't there a few years ago. Anybody have any more info?

And my fav is River Runs Through It. Have read some of mclanes books when I was a kid, wish I had time to read them again.

far and away #1 = Lonesome Dove

I have to clean the coffee off my screen first now before I considered Baywatch in that category.

Well I guess it's kind of a hunting movie :)

I do like the edge, the mountain men, man in the wilderness, Jeremiah Johnson of course and the hunted. If haven't seen any of these they're worth checking out.
