gonna be a long work year. a new guy just moved into the office next door. him and i will be running a big job, replacing a bridge over some environmentally sensitive area. he handles the admin..i handle all the technical structures stuff. we are even in seniority. he has his team, i have my (better) team.

i just saw him standing at the fax machine, and then sitting at his desk..WEARING shooting hearing protection ear-muffs.. WTF? i let it go as long as i could..i catch his eye and ask him what's up?

he explodes on me. he started yelling, that he needs to wear the hearing protection so he isnt distractied while dialing the fax numbers or working at his computer.. "why cant people leave him alone..yada yada yada"..

i paused and started laughing..i couldnt help it. darn it..crazy is everywhere. punching digits into a phone doesnt command all my brain power..heck, i havent faxed in years!! pdf and email. i let it sit, and i got kinda pissed at being yelled at..i was going back to engage..but i was intercepted by one of his guys. and given the "you get used to his crazy" speech

Elkduds: That was "ultra maroon" if I remember correctly. I loved Bugs. Anyway never underestimate the ability of a jerk to kiss up to power to gain an advantage. Just watch out as that type kicks down. When messing with peers, he will be ratting on every perceived flaw of yours to the boss.

He's the admin guy . . . start hammering him with frivolous RFI's and bs COR's, just start making stuff up to keep him busy. Start changing the font half way through his most-used documents, change the headers . . . oh . . . one of my favorites . . . change his email signature to Yosemite Sam, his title to 6-Gun Slinger, if you can figure it out, switch his Cell Number to his Wifes number so she's taking his calls all day.

See what happens when you give computers to a bunch of 20 somethings in the military and make them sit around for hours on end in a combat zone with nothing to do . . .

I had a project coordinator on my team for my last big project, a real tweaker that would bottle things up for weeks at a time, then he'd blow up on someone and start ranting on and on about how he's the only one doing anything and on and on and on. He'd reach that stressed out point because HE was getting behind in his own work.

Read all of the above and erase it from your mind . . . it's probably not a very good idea. Sorry, I'm sure that you know . . . the construction industry is no place for someone that's sensitive to noise . . . or sensitive in any regard.
