Race Training

Postby Triplebhunters » 03 21, 2014 •  [Post 1]

So there is a local race that I thought about signing up for. Kind of mixing elk mountain training with race training. This may be my first race ever. Looks like I would get as muddy racing as I did hunting elk last year.

Any tips?
What shoes should I wear for this?

Getting behind a hot 40 year-old might help your time

hotties in tight shorts or running pants is definitely a bonus when running races! I guess your training regiment would be dictated by how much in shape you currently are. you don't want to start too hard if its been awhile. look at things like couch to 5k and other things if you are already that fit.

x2 LOL... Looks like fun. Tough Mudders look pretty extreme. Too bad the one closest to me is in September...

I know when we were younger instead of hip boots we often used running shoes with high socks. Fast to rinse out and re-tie if a rock or grunge needed to be cleaned out.
The course does sound like fun,

Do it. Mud runs are fun and give you a good challenge. I've done the easier (I use that term loosely as it was a 5K obstacle run at 10kft) and the more difficult runs (Tough Mudder, 12 miles) that went over 11kft. I wasn't out to set a land speed record but I put my all into them.

I'm skipping the Mudder this year since they decided Colorado wasn't big enough yet to have two races and their one and only race is in September.

I may do the Spartan Race in Colorado Springs this spring. We'll see...

Pulled up a bunch of training for Adventure races, they would get you In shape for elk hunting. And the 40/2 would keep the eyes sharp.
While looking at different sites I do see that some have a place to request them for your area. Like I already mentioned they would get you (keep you) in elk shape.

If you ever find yourself training for a Tough Mudder, I will pass on the one piece of advice...Pull ups. You'll use a lot of upper body strength to avoid falling into the ice water that awaits you beneath the obstacles.

Thanks lark. I've been reading a lot about the training for these adventure races, reminds me a lot of wrestling practice 35 years ago.

Not to bad, the muscles around my elbows are ripped pretty good nothing IBU and capt couldn't take care of. Did legs and treadmill last night thought it went well. I am going to do my old routine for two weekes then I'm going to follow a schedule for adventure race training and see how we get along.

Third trip to gym on sat 1:45 min work out. 3.6 mile on tread mill took 53 min. Thighs are ripped hard.

Traded in my cinnamon rolls for hard boiled eggs and bananna, and traded in my little Debbie double decker oatmeal creme pie for salmon and crackers.

I have a question. I've been surfing for an article about perfect running form and have not found anything. Found a lot on building speed for beginners, but not for how to make my body glide, build rythem, how to land my feet, push off my feet, etc.

Thanks
Dave

Gary thanks. I ran accross this today and it has quite a bit of info. Good thing every thing leads back to squats which is my strong point. Always lived thinking running wasn't for big guys.
