2014 Scouting, Part II

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 08 14, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Heading out early tomorrow thru Sunday to do a bit of mountain biking and scouting here in the Evergreen State. It's a new area for me but am very anxious to check sign, put out a few trail cams, select a campsite for the upcoming early WA archery season, lock in water filtration points, and possibly get eyes on some of the indigenous locals ;). Will take some pics while I'm out. See you guys Sunday night 8-)

Trip report. Saw a good handfull of wapiti (all cows/calves), found a good campsite, found a water source way up high close to our campsite (great find as we would have been forced to camp much lower w/o water availability), covered a ton of ground on our MT bikes and boots, and overall, had a very successful scout. No pics of the elk as they didn't want to stand around and talk (very rude of them), but here are just a couple pics of our trip to the elkwoods over the weekend. The only vocal elk we heard was a separated cow whine as we kind of split a small herd (they were both below and above the road we were riding on).. The calf eventually came down across the road and rejoined mama.

we aren't bringing bikes now because I thought the elevation change was too big. but after seeing what you guys are going through, our spot looks easy....
