checking out the final total, 14 out of 18. I dropped 5... limit is 6. not bad for having skipped last year and only having gone once the year before to take out my oldest boy.

I guess waking up at 0350 and putting that much hard work into it, tired him out. he slept 3.5 of the 4 hour trip back home.

as tired as I was yesterday, I cant wait for that to happen! we camped at a county park and the locals with permanent sites tied one on until the wee hours.... I don't think that I slept an hour Friday night.

dennis, the corn is changing fast. the ealier planted stuff is getting pretty brown. but there is still plenty of green corn around. a lot of it is getting chopped for silage right now. that was a long trap line.....

good job, never hunted waterfowl myself but my dad took me out of school to go hunting as a kid every year and i enjoyed the hell out of every minute of it. one thing sticks out in my mind that ive never let him live down. we were driving out to our spot early morning one day and i saw some deer up on a hill on some private property. we stopped and glassed them, and we couldnt see for sure exactly what they were sporting, but it was two obviously very large mule deer bucks fighting, plus a group of does, and another good buck standing nearby. the property was posted. i said dad, lets just go knock on his door and ask him for permission. no no, he will just tell us no, theres no point. okay but lets ask anyway.... no it wont work, lets go hunt. well the next day we saw a couple guys dragging a buck down the hill. nasty old 6x7 muley, hell of a trophy. we stopped and talked to them. the guys response? "oh we just knocked on his door today and asked permission and he said go ahead"

Our corn froze hard early. silage is chopped the 1st week of sept here
Generally I ran 3-400 mink sets. One year I kept 525 sets working for ten days,.. that was a workout,... and a nice paycheck

Well how was the duck hunt this week?

Wow did I choke A flight of 45-50 geese, feet down,.. Killed one goose, nothing but rookie mistakes I did call the group back, I got greedy and thought I could finish off three more, I had pairs at 12 yards but wanted a triple , they all knew something was wrong.
Still a good hunt,

Put him ion a blind
I spent a lot of time with my daughters, they eventually learned to be still. ;)

One time we were out on the saltflats . Some guide had come in and set up in the middle of an area where 3 or 4 groups usually hunt
We set up as far away as we could for an evening hunt
Three girls, ,bright pink , and purple coats.
Later that night the guide said he wished his clients could hide and stay still a fraction of what he watched my daughters do

A little more training , a few more hunts and he will be good These will be some of your greatest hunts

oh yeah, dennis. he has seen his 2 brothers go out and come back with turkeys. you can see it on his face. he is a little jealous. I have reminded him several times since then that it took patience and sitting still to get those turkeys. hopefully it works well. if not there is always next year.
on a side note, I grilled up a breast draped with bacon tonight. so yummy!
