Postby ohio boy » 12 20, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Is there many snakes during bow/muzzleloader season in CO?? Ive only been out during 1st wk of rifle and never seen or heard of anyone seeing one. Just wondering if i should be looking for them next yr when i make it back out.

I have hunted archery out there for years and never seen a snake, now that I said that next year they will probably be everywhere!

I've seen rattlesnakes several times during Sept in CO, rarely above 7500 elev. Uncompahgre plateau, Phantom Canyon, foothills west of Ft.Collins to name a few locations. I see gardner and similar snakes near water up higher, usually in summer.

A year ago I was starting to sit down and a snake started buzzing,. Jesus could walk on water,.. I was walking in air :o
This year I saw two rattlers while scouting, end of July and in August. During season I drove by two and heard them . One we stopped to get for a hat band but it holed up
I think I posted this pic in August

I have seen snakes at 8500ft, sunning itself on an open hillside, last week of September. It was no rattlesnake, couldn't get a good enough look to determine the type though. Mostly brown in color, maybe 30-36inches long.

I hunt near Trinidad and Gardner and they are quite plentiful in the area, usually less than 9000 ft though
