desperate times call for desperate measures. hah!

Postby pointysticks » 02 20, 2015 •  [Post 1]

i vowed to go bow only with hunting. this was in 2008.

talk about one tough challenge. no elk, one deer, a few pigs, a gang of turkey. i'm going hunting for the weekend. hog hunting. i loaded up my bow, screwed on the broadheads, checked my gear. i hear this whispering. "take me!"..

i opened and closed my gun safe three times. in the end, i reached into the back and pulled out my trusty Weatherby Mark in 257 weatherby. i slide some bullets into the stock mounted ammo sheath. six bullets. i am kinda nervous. i am honestly more confident in my bow shots than my rifle!! What the heck? i literally have not shot a rifle since 2008! for insurance i dusted off my old early Harris bipod. i know my rifle was hitting 2" high at 100 yards 7 years ago. i tumbled countless deer with this thing. most of them while standing in some awkward half crouched, freaky position.

i dont know if i will use the rifle. maybe i ditch my gun toting buds and hit the high thick spots with my Elite bow.

this might be it..i might veto my "vow". looking thru a riflescope is darn near hypnotic at this point. super clear, bright..that big X showing me where the bullets will hit. hahah.

gonna be a weird weekend. i'll flip a coin or something. one thing for sure, i am going to order fresh ammo and get to the range. time to get back to my roots. i got invited to a free hunt in NM for deer. 7000 acres for my brother and i. mulies. wide open spaces. not archery friendly.

$85 buck sounds bad, but how much does a person have tied up in one arrow that sometimes it fly's to never-never land. 20-30 bucks, 15 for the arrow, 12 for the braodhead, lighted knock $5??? besides 257 is a great caliber. I would love to own one someday.

Good luck hunting pigs.
