textbook perfect hunt.

Postby wawhitey » 12 30, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Called this in for a friend today. Fully intentional cougar hunt. First attempt of the year. Hiked in to a spot i know is infested, friend set up on ridge above me so he could see anything coming into the call with a birds eye view, i hid under a big fir down in the draw and started calling. He shot it at 200 yards as it was sneaking in on me, about 80ish yards from me. Used a hand call from rick robbins. 3 hour hike up the mountain to get to the spot, then 30 minutes of calling and BANG! went exactly like it was supposed to, like the cat was following a script, unbelievable.

Awesome cat! Just curious, but what kind of calling were you doing to attract it?

When i called in my bear this spring i was solo, heard a tiny noise behind me and when i turned my head a big old sow was staring me down from ten yards. I went on auto pilot and shot her in the chest. That was a massive rush. With this cat, i purposely set myself up in a spot where i would have a very low chance of being the shooter, so that a cat wouldnt bust me, knowing i had a legit sniper in a good shooting position. When i heard his shot i had no idea what happened. I halfway thought he just got too cold and was screwing with me to end the hunt, so i kept calling until he whistled. The biggest rush was when i was bloodtrailing it through a thick mess (shooter didnt know how hard he hit it, so he remained on the ridge to make sure it didnt run out the other side of the draw when i was tracking it) , and it jumped up ten feet from me. But it died when it hit the ground. Didnt make it 100yrds from where it was shot.

The gmu where we got this cat, 121, has a harvest guideline of 5-6. I guess ours was #11. 8-) maybe this is a sign that wdfws population estimate is flawed. Id like them to explain to me why i had at least 8 diff cats on cam on my 21 acre property in gmu 121 in less than a year. Idiots. http://www.king5.com/mb/tech/science/en ... /391510894

I like your kitty Whitey. It won't be feeding on deer and elk anymore. Congratulations.

AWESOME!

Nice job conveying the story from start to finish.
