I hate pretty sunsets!

All too often it means fire west of my place in the desert playground I enjoy.

Smoke was order of magnitude worse here in Puget sound. I would say only a mile visibility or so. Probably not smoke in your favorite area Lefty. The Jetstream has pulled all the smoke from Canada fires down here into us. The Sat photos are pretty amazing.

The smoke didn't thin until Wells Nevada, but we didn't see shadows until Sparks.

I work on tugs out of seattle. Most of my work involves me going to alaska, but this summer ive been on a job that has me going between astoria and texada island. These last couple days the visibility in the puget sound has been affected by the smoke. Pretty unpleasant. This morning i drove home, and as i was heading up sr28 around wilson creek the sun was coming up. The smoke turned it into a weird neon pink ball creeping up above the sage covered rock formations and it was just unreal. Felt like i was driving through some alien planet. No real way to describe it, i wish i would have taken some pictures.

My daughter called to complain, her car was covered in ash from the fire west of town. 51,000 acres, only 25% contained.
