Cutting it close

Postby Jmp209 » 09 29, 2017 •  [Post 1]

My friend and I have been planning our first elk hunt for over a year now. It's going to be a DIY Colorado hunt during their second rifle season so we start our 30 hour drive in just less than 3 weeks. The other day he had something happen with his appendix and has been in the hospital for several days. From what he's told, they will evaluate tomorrow and if the problem is improving they will release him but expect him to return in 2 weeks for a colonoscopy and re-evaluation. Not sure if we will make it now or not.

Not sure which unit you're headed to, but some of them are a fair piece from a hospital. A burst appendix is not something you can take care of on the mountain.

He's either got to get an all clear from the doctor or we won't end up going. I'm sure he will want to push it to go either way but I don't think it would be worth the risk. It's looking like we won't know until the week we're supposed to leave though. Not sure if it would be worth a shot to call and see if we could get our licenses refunded now and replan again for next season or wait it out. Technically we're past the window for refunds but not sure if they would make an exception or not.

Good luck in the near future, I hope he gets the green light from the doc, and you guys have a great hunt.

I agree, if it's iffy, it's not worth it. Keep us posted

Well we've officially cancelled our trip to Colorado which is a bit if a let down but it was the best choice. On a side note I was fortunate enough to get my first traditional bow kill back home yesterday which helps soften the loss of our first elk hunt. Sorry to hear about your elk hunt, but Colorado will still be there when you are ready. I am pleased you scored back home.
