I remember picking strawberries in the fields around my house, as I got older I flipped burgers and mowed lawns...but I must be wrong because I'm not an illegal emigrant and we all know that they are the only people that do those jobs.

Sold night crawlers, mowed lawns, shoveled snow, trapped, delivered newspapers in a few small MT towns (remember Grit newspaper?), hayed, some fencing. Really, whatever I could find.

We sold Grit also!
We got into the crawler business when I was older. Early 80s I was picking $200 plus worth a night( 5 hours) .
My brother became a huge supplier of worms when I told him about worm balls,

I hayed but only got a big breakfast dinner and supper, and a good night sleep

I mowed lawns and trapped with a friend, when Old enough I worked at a local grocery store. I bartered for goose hunting on a farmer field, if I helped with hay, he let me goose hunt. Seemed you always had just enough money to fish/hunt and plenty of time. Now have money but not enough time!!

My first job was delivering newspapers at age 8 or 9. Did yard work (shoveled snow, raked leaves, cleaned a pool). Once I had enough money and purchased a Honda Spree(around 13 or 14 years old) I started processing deer for 3 months out of the year for a guy that did over 800 deer a year(all deboned). I drove the Spree everywhere during all times of the year here in Michigan and also started milking cows and throwing hay. Once I was 17 I was working on a fairly big farm and also at a custom meat packing plant. Continued to cut meat up for years and years(part time while working my full time profession) and I sure wish I could make a living at it now that I am older as I really enjoy meat processing.

What money? If I had gone out to make any money, I would have been neglecting my home chores and if I had any extra time, someone was there to figure out more chores that needed done.
One the other hand if I needed something or wanted something, ( there is a difference) I had to make a good case as to why. Then if I made a good case for it, it was budgeted in the upcoming expenses. Many times though, there was no money for it even if I did.

Allowance for doing chores, and as far back as 1st grade I collected aluminum cans when you could still trade for cold hard cash. :D Mowed lawns from 13 to 15 then got a paper route. Had that until I was 16 and then flipped burgers at McDonalds until I graduated High School.

As soon as I was driving fox trapping , $1.00 a gallon gas, $10.00 fox bought a lot of gas and shotgun shells.
Early 70's muskrats were $3.00 we caught bunches of them, 25.00 average on beaver on a bicycle trap line
Corn detassking $1.25 an hour
Rock picking.,.. about 50 cents an hour,.. we got robbed by every farmer.

Money had not been invented yet when I was a kid. At least I think it wasn't. We did our chores and helped out. My brother and I got to eat at the same table as our parents did. That was our reward. We occasionally got away from home and stayed with relatives. We worked the fields then doing everything from picking, to running a farm tractor.

Worked at my Dad’s body shop sandblasting. Then as a carpenters assistant. When I got to college I got a job in an insurance company’s underwriting department. Man was that easy! Then I graduated with an engineering degree and have worked for the same company since then.

Lefty: I grew up in southern Illinois. Back in the late 50s early 60s, muskrats were 80 cents, $1 for coons, and a Jumbo mink was $19. Not much money but lots of fun. But here in Colorado, leg hold traps are not permitted so I quit trapping and started elk hunting. Now there is some real fun!
