Postby WapitiTalk1 » 05 02, 2018 •  [Post 1]

The May 2018 Photo Theme is – "Elk Gear". Let’s see some pics that show a piece of your favorite elk gear (gun, bow, camp item, transportation, backpack gear, whatever).

Rules:

1. One photo submission allowed per month, per member (yep, MODs may enter a photo also).
2. Photo must relate to the monthly theme (or risk being disqualified).
3. Do not use photo editing software to enhance your photo. Just post the photo as it was taken with your camera, smart phone, trail cam, etc. You may have to resize some photos so they are accepted by the forum software.
4. You may use older photos you have on hand, but, do not submit a photo that has won a previous WT photo contest.
5. Any WT member may enter a photo they have taken or star in.
6. Judging – WT members will vote on monthly photo submissions.
7. Contest period will normally end the last day of the month.
8. Winner must contact WapitiTalk1 via PM and provide mailing address for prize (your prize may be sent directly from a WT sponsor or from RJ).
9. Prizes will vary from month to month.

* At the end of the year, all monthly contest winners will be automatically entered into a Photo of the Year Contest.

gross may be an understatement! wonder what the story is....eek

I took this pic last fall to send to a friend, the knife was the first knife he ever made from scratch (chunk of metal shaped and heat tempered himself) and it's a pretty meaningful piece of gear to me, both for it's functionality, and it was one heck of a gift, sharpens really easy in the field, and holds an edge well, it's 1095 steel. between it and my elk track, there ain't much I can't get ready to pack in short order 8-) I think I will get one more elk track too, not so much that I need one, I just want one.

another piece of gear in the photo is my horn hunter full curl, it has been a true workhorse. I think I will bring it out of retirement for my rifle hunting pack, and use my EXO for archery hunting, I like my pack configured a little different for each type of hunting, and it's a pain to switch things around all the time. I have 2 good packs, may as well utilize them.

Ignore the napping deer in the background. That old school hunk of metal and walnut is where it's at!

Ok enough of the feet picture right! This is my newest (as of 2 years ago) piece of gear that is here to stay. What could be more important than a tool that stands between you and your bull at the moment of truth? This Caldwell Deadshot Field Pod is awesome! I strap it to the rear of my pack. It deploys fast although it’s not for quick shots. It’s for those early and late day setups. Especially awesome for long bombs. Unlike the good old bipod it supports both the front and back of my rifle. It pans right and left smoothly as well as up and down once you set the tension for the weight of your gun. I love it and it can really make the difference between elk back straps and tag soup!

Notice the sweet setup. Meadow on the bottom left is also a saddle where elk come from the timber on the northeast side of the ridge to feed on the southwest facing slopes. Killer bull spot!

Why carry a kill kit @ all times? You might get to use it.
