Commercialized Hunting

Postby currie » 06 06, 2018 •  [Post 1]

Sorry guys but I hate to see what is happening to Hunting industry. Accubow, mountain ops etc all these gimmicks. Just garbage social media hunters posing with an animal in a skippy bikini. People pushing products more than what it’s about makes me sick. Sorry needed to vent

Dont watch hunting shows, dont read the grip n grin hunting mags, just go hunt how you like, and to hell with all the product hype. Easy to ignore. Im a sucker for some things, basically i want good clothes and boots, but yeah, a lot of b.s. commercialism going on. But like i said, easy to ignore.

I don’t know that I’d throw Mountain Ops in that group. I started taking their vitamins at the start of the year and I’ve never felt better. I know they’re expensive, but no more than the ones my bride orders from a nutritionist. I’ve lost 35 pound in the last 3 months and I could not have done it without the vitamins.

I agree TV is a driving force, everybody wants to go sit in a tree stand and have multiple 300 inch bulls and 150 inch whitetail walk right buy. But I don't mind some of the skippy bikini. Lol

I agree hunting is too commercialized and a lot of nonsense is being introduced. The sales pitches are loud and continuous. Our clothes are supposed to be the best $100 shirt or $350 jacket. Now we have the $100 broad-head three pack that is specially built for elk. It bothers me that hunting is more about stuff than the hunt, and the poor common man is left to think they can't afford to join the hunting community.
As for the bikini girl, all I have to say on that is she would not hunt out of my camp twice. She is a deliberate distraction, and trouble. I would not drive her out to the woods and drop her off to attempt to hunt, or whatever she had in mind.
I still remember going out to a logging site where I found a pretty young lady dressed in shower sandals and a bikini. She was sunning herself and supposedly doing the fire watch. A fire watch needed to be looking for possible fires, able and ready to fight it, if one started, and be able to operate the fire truck and other equipment. I asked her to start the truck, and to pump water from the tank. She could not. I knew it, and knew she was not prepared to go put out a fire. I shut down the entire logging operation until they had a real fireman.
I don't think it is appropriate to market hunting on television, from tree stands, with undressed women. Hunting does not need to be the exclusive domain of men, but it should always be a serious and focused pursuit.

as far as commercialization..whatever. i'm jealous i dont have a career in the outdoor hunting industry. they have to make a living, and it is awesome they get to do what they do. i can choose not to watch. which i dont since i dont have cable.

I'm totally with you guys on this one ! Yes I own a call company blah blah blah..................you guys ever wonder why I'm not on here posting 20 times a day ? It's for this exact reason........I'm so sick of seeing this company and that company doing 2-3 contest every month giving crap away that all was donated so they can get poplar. For one they are all working together cause they are all friends.

I'm not one to be in a cliché and never will be. I'm happy selling a few elk calls here and in a few stores and at trade shows. I'll never make a living selling calls and that's why I work 3 jobs.....keeps me busy and my bills are paid up.

I say things like they are and if you like me for it good. If it offends some so be it. Heck when I walk into worlds every year some guys shake my hand while others won't even make eye contact with me. I laugh to myself cause I know what they are thinking before I even walk in....LMAO !!!

TV shows are a joke as most of these so called hunters don't even know where to put an arrow for quick humane kill. These same idiots shooting 80-90-100 yards at an elk !!! Give your head a shake guys these are living animals and not some 3D target standing out there !! I actually cringe selling elk calls some times cause I know these TV celebrity types are going to use them to call in elk !! Maybe I don't want these elk called in.....................I just don't know anymore !! I use them but honestly I'll call a bull in just to admire him and look into his eye and whisper to him.....I WON !!!

That's my take on it........I could go on and on but I won't !

I would say there is 1 hunting celebrity out there I admire. He has sponsors, but after the obligatory mention at the beginning, that is it. He hunts like we do and only hunts public land as a do-it-yourselfer. He is a great advocate for hunting as well and he isn't getting rich on the deal. He passes on his knowledge. Randy Newberg.

How come I never see any bikini girls out hunting? :?:

Randy walks the walk on DIY hunting, and especially on public lands advocacy. Without guys like him, it would all be Pay to Play on private lands.

AND, we see bikini-girls and ones who lost theirs often in CO. You just have to get high enough ;)

i'm cool with the commercialization. go for it, make a buck!

it did generate an industry that gave us some great gear. competition i hope helped the pricing.
i'm not "all in",but i would be lying if i said i didnt benefit from it somewhat. i bought in at a certain level.

I like many relatively new products, but 100% agree with Currie here. I appreciate Travis with Wapiti River Outdoors. His humble spirit is refreshing. Elknut, even though I give him a pain in his you know what, puts back a lot into the sport we love. He freely shares with any and all. Many others too are like a breath of fresh air.
What I have issue with in addition to what Currie mentioned is the new every year gimmicks that are hyped beyond reason. Another problem is hunters want everything available regardless of what it is doing to the sport. Do we really want to have a gun carrying drone, and camera so we can sit back in camp and kill anything for miles around, just because it is technologically possible? I will guarantee you they will be out there when they are available on the market.

But have you tried the MT OPS chewing gum? It almost makes hunting too easy...
