Enclosed trailer camp pictures

Postby six » 06 25, 2018 •  [Post 1]

Ok guys. I'm trying to convince the wife we need a enclosed trailer to haul our toys. Polaris Razor, 4-wheelers, bicycles, kayaks etc. My ulterior motive would be to us the trailer as base camp. Sure would be nice to head back to base camp mid week for a solar shower, warm meal, and a good nights sleep off the ground. Hoping someone has pictures of their enclosed trailer being used for elk camp.

I just sold this trailer as I decided to go back to a tent. They both have their advantages. The trailer is nice to come back to after a day out hunting, or when you return from a spike camp hunt. Things are more secure, and their is both comfort and convenience in the trailer.
I got rid of mine as I was only using once a year max. The tent is more flexible as I can take it where I would not take the trailer.

Not sure I have any pictures, but I use my 7X16 for hunting. It has no frills, just a trailer. Easily sleeps 3. I have also slept in a tent and used it for a cooking/eating trailer. Will use it again for WY antelope this year for 3 of us. I wouldn't be without one! My vote would be for you to get one (uh, do I get a vote?).

Sorry we use tents and I own a travel trailer. I just don't want to haul the thing 20 hour or more at 9 miles to the gallon. But our not-so-elknuts neighbor loves his 5 wheel trailer. He's got a dish for the football games he can't miss on a elk hunt, shower, queen bed, refrigerator for his beer. He tells me it's a vacation. But he does hunt hard most days. Lol
As I get old that bed thing does sound good.

I have a pop up camper that works great for two or three guys in camp, and we use for our family all summer. I've camped/hunted out of enclosed trailers before and they work well, load up your wheeler(s) and gear and when you get there unload and boom you have a shelter to sleep in. The only thing I recommend (based on a very cold early November moose hunt) is if you think you'll be in it in cold temps to insulate the roof and sides. Insulated, a buddy heater will blow you out of there, uninsulated and you'll have some frosty mornings.

Elkhntr, you are supposed to lose a few of the comforts of home when you go camping. Are you sure you did not get things backwards on that? That is a very nice looking outfit.

Swede, it’s a small price to pay to hunt when and where I want during retirement. The wife loves to camp in comfort and will be happy wherever it’s parked. The tent will store nicely in the front end and rest of the gear in the back. Happy wife, happy hunting!

We hunt out of a 20' gooseneck horse trailer with modified sleeping quarters in the front. Set up a kitchen in the back, close the gate and we're bear proof food storage compliant.

Would you mind posting some pics of the horse trailer converted for sleeping in? I have a horse trailer too and would love to see how you did that!

I have tried it all, except for the really big stuff. Wall tents, then set a camp up in the stock trailer, then a slide in pop up camper, now ultra light equipment to return to packing in on mules for 3-4 days at a time this year. Then come back out to the camper.Best of two worlds.

Someone mentioned solar showers. They suck. Never get warm enough.Take a 3 gallon garden sprayer, replace the wand with a sink sprayer , heat water, ,pour it in the sprayer and pump it up.Sure feels good.Surprising how good a shower you can take on gallons of water.

Dang, wish I had taken some pics, we just spent 10 days in a toy hauler trailer, and we had a wall tent for storage. There were 3 of us most of the time, and just 2 of us a few days, we had cots, lantern for night and early morning.

A source of heat would have been a huge upgrade, small gen set with a safe electric heater would have been nice, I'm skinny and froze my butt off

A thicker sleeping bag would have helped too, but it's nice waking up to a decent temp, not as fun getting up at 3 freezing and have to crawl out of the sleeping bag and put cold clothes on, and not warm up until you are a mile into your morning hunt.

It worked plenty good, couple small improvements and it would have been perfect

This is not really what "six" asked but it what our traveling/camping arrangement has evolved into.

And lastly our favorite method with the popup unloaded.

Like the skirt you put on the bottom of your camper. I added two commercial load bars under the nose of mine. Always been a little leary about the thing tipping over on its nose in the middle of the night. LOL! what kind of horses do you have under yours?

Bill, it is actually impossible for a truck camper to tip over but I guess that your stabilization could remove some possible shaking. Of course I am hunting with my Son so there ain't no shakin'. :D

The skirting gives us a place to store stuff and keeps the camp looking neater. The genny sleeps under there at night but it goes into the locked trailer during the day. We have never had any "uninvited" guests while we were not there but we still remove all temptations. We do see all sorts of stuff scattered around other campsites.
