True or false

Postby Fridaythe13th » 10 01, 2018 •  [Post 1]

We had CPR class at work and the teacher was telling the class that people that live or go to the mountains burn 8,000 to 10,000 calories a day. I laughed at him, but not being a calorie expert I let it go. I was think closer to burning 4,000 to 5,000 a day elk hunting. I realize there are lots of variable, but 8,000 to 10,000 seemed really high.

I call BS. I used to work out pretty heavily in my early days (I was a Marine that had to be as bad as I thought I was  ) and I kept meticulous records of my work outs and calorie intake. My average workout was 4 hours long and it include weight work, aerobic work, and swimming and I only required 2000 calories a day along with some protein and amino acid supplements and I still kept my muscle bulk up. No human being can possibly take in more than 4 or 5 thousand calories when they are in the woods, and even then that would only be if you literally ran from place to place, uphill, in the woods all day long. Professional bodybuilders only take in 5000 calories a meal when they are trying to bulk up for a competition (I know some power lifters say they take in 10,000 calories per day), they eat far less than that when they are just doing their daily routine.

Not false just all BS
I think some guys might burn big numbers of calories,.he better speak with his nutritionist: I should be losing 10lbs a week
I was part of University of Minnesota Heart Health study (1984?) I was consuming 4500-5500 calories a day,.. un-measurable body fat ( the doc estimated I had 3%)
I think many of us can eat 3000 calories a day,.. but it is physically hard to eat 5000 a day

I was compensated well,... and I think mostly single ( and easy on the eyes) nurses worked with me ;)

I think it depends. If you put on 20+ miles with pack, bow, boots, incline, snow, etc ... A 210# marathon runner will burn 3600 calories during the marathon (quick google search). Add in the normal roughly 2,000 - 2,500 for the rest of the day and they are at roughly 6,000 calories. I haven't run a marathon, but an elk hunt lasts 10+ hours versus 4-5. 10,000 might be a stretch, but I could see 8,000 calories not being out of the question on a long hard day. Especially if you get one and pack it out until midnight or later! It would be pretty hard to keep that pace up for very many days, that is for sure.

Hear's a picture of a 10,000 calorie meal. There is no way that I could eat that much in one day.

Get rid of that green stuff? Apple pie with icecream would help.
