Three Points of Contact

Postby Swede » 09 27, 2016 •  [Post 1]

Tree stand hunters probably all know they need to maintain three points of secure contact with the tree at all times. It can be two hands and a foot or two feet and one hand, as we move up and down the tree. How many of us are careful to position our steps in the tree so we can follow the golden rule? I fail at times myself, especially when I get lazy about screwing in more steps. This year I had a couple of long reaches that I placed my knee on a step so I could get to the next. At least I had a safety line.
I also heard some sniveling about an old wood ladder that is between 15-20 years old. I agree it is time for a replacement. I like the wooden ladders, but they have a limited life if safety is a concern.

Amen Swede, I work in Radiology and see the aftermath yearly. Last year a guy was climbing his stand before the season to check if it was still safe and he fell. If he makes it out in the future it will never be the same and will take multiple surgeries.
