Safety reminder

Postby ishy » 06 25, 2017 •  [Post 1]

I passed out Saturday while playing basketball. At 41 and less than a year removed from finishing an Ironman it was pretty humbling. I think it was just a pressure issue due to not warming up sufficiently. First things I thought of where how bad it could be if it happened driving, and #2 climbing in and out of my stand? Just another reminder that we have to always have to take safety precautions.

Great point ishy. A tree stand is no place to become complacent. Remember getting into and out of your tree is the most dangerous time.

I teach my firearm safety students to double the cables on any portable tree stand. If there is only 1 cable per side, you are trusting your life to the 4 connections. $5 at the hardware store and you have your safety doubled.

Also, don't be in a hurry. I find myself hurrying to get in the stand. When you leave the ground, you should consciously slow down about 90%.

Millennium Safe-Link Safety Line 35'

This came with my M-100 tree stand I purchased over the summer. I've practiced with it a few times and really like it. Cant wait to give it a go this fall.

I have safety lines like Six's which I purchased from Hunter Safety Systems (HSS). They are worth their weight in gold when it comes to confidence and ease of going up and down a tree.

Yes on the Safety Line! Even if you must purchase one separately, it's worth every penny, and then some.

Yeah Swede gave WT1 and I a brief seminar on those safety lines, great device! Very glad to say that my new M100U came with one.
