Another Happy Camper

Postby Indian Summer » 10 31, 2018 •  [Post 1]

This hunter moved to Montana from Michigan years ago. He wasn’t a hunter at the time but loves the mountains and hiking. He started elk hunting a few years after moving to Missoula where he works in the printing business. He started out hunting in ski clothes with a hand me down rifle. He went for quite a few years, 6 or 8 with no luck. Saw some elk but never laid eyes on a bull. I gave him a hunt plan in 2016. That year he missed a nice bull. He vowed to return to the area and bought a new rifle that winter. The following year, last year, he killed a nice 5 point bull. I told him that they would come easier after the first one because now he was confident and more patient. Also more determined than ever.

Yesterday morning I got this text. Words I love to see: “Big bull down!” Same spot. I have no doubt Lee will continue to have consistent success. He’s an upbeat guy who has broken the ice and isn’t looking back.

As you can see he’s in an old burn. It’s from 2000. So he did have some downed timber to pack over. But.... he’s only 3/4 of a mile from his truck and all flat. Congratulations on a nice herd bull Lee. Love those monster 3rds! You need a Clip-Shot!

Great bull Lee. Congratulations. The first one is the toughest. They are never easy, but they are more doable.
